Just In time for Halloween, “Creepshow” Unearths Season 4 Preview

Full disclosure: Creepshow – that delightfully dark and scary franchise originated by Stephen King’s prolific output of spine-tingling short stories – and I have history. And it’s pretty significant history, at that.

The very first horror film that I ever saw at a movie theater was director George A. Romero’s feature film, Creepshow. Released in late 1982 – just months after I’d caught a showing of its polar opposite, E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial – I distinctly recall begging my stepmother to take me to a showing. Y’see, I was not yet ten years old and desperately required an adult to accompany me to a matinee showing. I had just discovered the worlds of Rod Serling’s The Twilight Zone, the old Universal monster flicks from the 1930s and 40s as well as the rallying-cry for all fellow monster movie fans, the magazine Famous Monsters of Filmland (though by ‘82 it was sadly on its last legs). To my wide-eyed, towheaded junior self, Creepshow looked to be a continuation of the creepy crawlies that I had taken a shine to and I had to see it. And, surprisingly enough, my stepmom agreed and promptly packed me up in our family car and took me to see what, at that point in time, was the most horrifying moviegoing experience I’d ever encountered (this was still a few years out from Ishtar, mind you). Sitting in that darkened Del Rio, TX movie house, I watched this anthology of tales about the dead returning for vengeance, a very unhappy crated up ghoulie in a dark basement, a Birthday party gone very wrong, and a highrise infested by killer cockroaches. I was enthralled. And I was terrified. Walking out of that theater and into the harsh Texas mid-day sun, all I could think about was seeing more movies like Creepshow. What can I say? I was a weird kid.

Now, of course, you don’t need to trek to the cineplex to watch the new Creepshow film (though a part of me laments that salient fact). Rather, you can just tune into streaming service Shudder and take in a viewing of an actual ongoing anthology series which bears that hallowed moniker. And speaking of which…

Our back-slapping pals over at Bloody Disgusting have released the trailer for the upcoming fourth season of the popular horror anthology Creepshow. You can check out the bloody goings-on right here, Dear and Constant Reader.

Creepshow season 4 premieres this October 13 only on Shudder, AMC+ and regular old AMC. Check it out: As someone once proclaimed, “It’s the most fun you’ll ever have being scared”!
