Official Trailer for “John Wick” Spin-Off Series Gives Audiences First Real Glimpse of Mel Gibson as the Big Bad

By now it’s no secret that  streaming service Peacock has a three-part John Wick spinoff series in the works which acts as a prequel to the action-packed goings ons with Keanu Reeves’ character in the Wick film franchise. What may have been lost in the initial excitement over the announcement of this universe-expanding series from director and producer Albert Hughes is that no less of a luminary as Mel Gibson is crashing the party as a maestro of the underworld and the manager of the famed Continental Hotel. Read on for further tantalizing details, Dear and Constant Reader…

From our Grosse Pointe Blank pals over at The Hollywood Reporter comes the first official trailer for the forthcoming Peacock spinoff series to the popular John Wick franchise, The Continental: From the World of John Wick. Wanna take a gander? Just click right here at this handy-dandy little link!

For anyone that may need a quick primer on what precisely The Continental is all about, we’ve got a Reader’s Digest Condensed Version for you, never fear: This expansion of the John Wick Universe told over the course of three episodes and set 40 years in the past, is a story which turns its attention to Wick supporting player Winston and the trials and travails he undergoes to plant roots with The Continental Hotel (for those not up-to-date on your Wick landmarks, The Continental serves as a safe haven for assassins). Gibson hits the scene as a shady underworld type called Cormac who manages the hotel and who calls on Winston for his expertise in recovering stolen goods; things do not go well.

Delving even deeper into plot details, Peacock released a production logline which illuminates just how high the stakes are in this miniseries: “The three-part event will explore the origin behind the iconic hotel-for-assassins centerpiece of the John Wick universe through the eyes and actions of a young Winston Scott, as he’s dragged into the Hell-scape of 1970s New York City to face a past he thought he’d left behind. Winston charts a deadly course through the hotel’s mysterious underworld in a harrowing attempt to seize the hotel where he will eventually take his future throne.”

This television event will mark the first time Mel Gibson has worked in that medium since his irregular part in the 2004 ABC series Complete Savages; welcome back to the land of the boob tube, Mel!

The Continental: From the World of John Wick premieres on Peacock this September 22, while part two and part three will air on September 29 and October 6 respectively.
