INTERVIEW: Singer Muratti

We’re excited to be speaking today with acclaimed music artist and genre-defying star extraordinaire, Singer Muratti; greetings and salutations, Singer! Before we dive into the Q&A mosh-pit, how has your summer of ‘23 been treating you?
Summer of ’23 has been an incredible journey, full of creativity and new experiences. It’s been busy and I’ve enjoyed every moment of it. I’ve been focusing on creating new music and really pushing my artistic boundaries.

Major congratulations on your brand-new single Overthinking which premieres this August 4! What was the inspiration for this gem of a tune?
Thank you! The inspiration for ‘Overthinking’ came from observing how we often let our thoughts hold us back. It’s about the beauty of letting go and just living in the moment, hence the dance vibe.

Who was your producer on Overthinking and what did the collaboration between artist and producer look like in the studio?
The track was produced by me. The collaboration was a truly organic and magical process. We spent hours in the studio experimenting with different sounds and rhythms, and their creativity really helped bring the song to life.

In your opinion, what differentiates Overthinking from the Distinguished Competition on the 2023 music scene?
I think ‘Overthinking’ stands out due to its authenticity. The song reflects my own experiences and feelings, but I also believe it’s something many people can relate to. Also, the fusion of different genres and the African rhythms gives it a unique sound.

Overthinking is released via Ditto Music. What makes Ditto the perfect home for you and your music?
Ditto Music is an amazing platform that supports independent artists. They understand my artistic vision and provide the freedom to express myself musically, making them the perfect home for my music.

How is Overthinking similar to some of your past music such as Tiny Kiss? How is it different?
‘Overthinking’, like ‘Tiny Kiss’, holds a message of emotion and self-reflection. However, the sound is different, it has a more upbeat, dance vibe compared to the melodic rhythm of ‘Tiny Kiss’. Also ‘Tiny Kiss’ carries some oriental ethnic vibes inspired by the place where I currently live. (Dubai, UAE)

On the heels of the release of the new single, can fans look forward to an EP or LP release from you before the end of 2023?
I don’t want to give away too much, but let’s just say that I’ve been in the studio quite a bit lately, so fans should definitely keep an eye out for new music.

Who inspires you musically?
I draw inspiration from a variety of artists across different genres. From the dance tunes of Daft Punk to the innovative sounds of Afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti, I try to incorporate a wide range of musical influences in my work.

What does your touring/performing dance card look like in the coming weeks  and months?
Currently, there are no live performances scheduled. However, I’m very active online and have been doing some live-streamed performances.

As a songwriter, which generally comes first for you when working on new material – The lyrics or the music?
It really depends on the song. Sometimes, a melody comes to me first, while other times, it’s the lyrics. The process is often spontaneous and unpredictable, which I think is part of the beauty of creating music.

At the end of the day what do you hope listeners walk away with after giving many-a spin to Overthinking on their hi-fi systems?
I hope ‘Overthinking’ encourages listeners to let go of any doubts and anxieties they have and to live in the moment. It’s a song about liberation and I hope it inspires listeners to dance, enjoy and embrace life fully.
