Malik English drops silky new single ‘Only Me’ alongside Izumii

Malik English has a dropped a new single that balances the retro with the hyper-modern. ‘Only Me’ features swirling electronic instrumentation paired with a heavy and energetic drum and bass break that build the backing for the silky vocal performance. The processed vocal parts come floating over the speed and energy of the break with a relaxed and confident attitude. We also see a feature from artist Izumii, who’s performance is equally smooth.

On the new release, Malik shares, “’Only Me’ is an embodiment of joy, an invitation to escape the pressures of life, and to encourage others to feel comfortable being themselves. No matter if you’re alone or in a group of people it’s important to maintain your sense of self and have fun being who you are. We wanted to motivate people to wild out in whatever way’s cool for them.”

The 23-year-old Trinidadian, Nigerian, Canadian artist and producer Malik English has always worn his influences on his sleeve. The artist has embraced cultures and styles from all his life’s inspirations, blurring the lines between genres to create an ever changing but unique sound. He’s performed at SXSW, The Apollo, SOBs as well as featuring in Beyonce’s Black Is King. As a young, black creative, English is a non-stop collaborator that aims to subvert expectations you would have for his music.
