Mila Nabours is an actress and singer/songwriter that is in a time of self discovery as both an artist and a person. Not only is she working on new music but she is also working on reversing the toxic thoughts from her time as a gymnast. Currently she is preparing for some live performances, but she took some time out of rehearsals for this interview about her career.
1. Tell us about how you got started in music.
During the start of the pandemic, I finally had some spare time to get involved in starting music! For a long time I’d been wanting to start singing and creating music, but never knew where to start or had the time to. In 2020, I was introduced to Andrew Lane, and we’ve been working together ever since. To this day, I’m discovering my sound and working to create music that represents my style to most accurate extent.
2. What has been your favorite live performance so far?
My favorite live performance so far has to be my 2022 London performance in dedication of Your Majesty Queen Elizabeth. I’m so grateful to have performed my original song “Memory” in honor of her.
3. Is there a funny story from the set you would like to from one of your live performances?
During one of my performances, the track was supposed to start right when I walked out on the stage, but during this performance, I started walking out and the track didn’t play, so I ended up on the stage with no music at first lol. I ended up just talking to the audience for a moment and laughed it off. It ended up being a pretty good performance overall 🙂
4. What’s the biggest hurdle have you ever faced in your life?
One of the most mentally challenging hurdles I’ve been going through the past few years is reversing some of the toxic mentalities that stuck with me while doing gymnastics throughout my childhood. Don’t get me wrong, I learned so much discipline and important life lessons while being a gymnast, and not one part of me regrets it, but in turn of that, I also developed harsh self deprecating mentalities that I’ve had to overcome.
5. What is it you like most about being an actor?
I absolutely love the feeling of getting to become a new version without feeling vulnerable. The vulnerability I’d feel is now the character’s vulnerability, not mine, and so it allows me to unleash raw emotions in a new light. It’s sort of like an escape from reality in an exciting way, and I’m able to release creative expression in a way that I don’t get to in regular life.
6. Do you have any future projects you can talk about?
Yes! I’m going to be performing in LA at The Federal Bar in North Hollywood on August 2nd, and then at Milan Fashion Week in September. I’m currently preparing songs for both of these performances.
