The 14th season of The Simpsons was tough. However, I still found five episodes worth watching. The show is approaching its 750th episode. After those first several seasons, which you should watch all of, it makes sense to pick and choose if you are new to the show. I love The Simpsons more than any show or movie, but it had some lean years. Here are the five episodes from season 15 to check out.
1. “The President Wore Pearls”
A parody of the musical Evita? From The Simpsons? In 2003? First, wow, it has been 20 years since the 15th season of this show. That’s wild. Second, “The President Wore Pearls” is actually quite fun. I don’t know Evita beyond “Don’t Cry For Me Argentina,” but I still enjoyed this episode, and thought some of the songs were fun.
2. “The Regina Monologues”
Honestly? A mediocre episode. The Simpsons go to England and some stuff happens. It’s fine. Why recommend it then? It’s the last John Swartzwelder episode. Swartzwelder is the foremost legend of the Simpsons writing staff. This was his farewell, so you should check it out. Then watch the dozens of better episodes he wrote.
3. “Tis the Fifteenth Season”
The Simpsons and Halloween go hand-in-hand, but they have done a ton of Christmas episodes as well. “Tis the Fifteenth Season” is one of the better Christmas episodes. They do a lot of riffs on Christmas specials and maybe lean a bit too much into the parody aspect, but it’s still funny and it’s nice to check in on the X-mas episodes.
4. “My Big Fat Geek Wedding”
The Simpsons is not known for ongoing storylines, but this was a payoff from a previous episode. In fact, a couple previous episodes. Skinner and Krabappel are supposed to get married, but then they don’t. Marcia Wallace died a few years ago, removing Edna from the show, which was a shame. Definitely give yourself a little Mrs. K in the mix.
5. “Simple Simpson”
I chose this episode because it is indicative of these middle seasons of The Simpsons. It’s too silly by half. The Dalai Lama flies. However, it is also really funny. I roll my eyes a few times, but mostly I laugh and enjoy myself. That makes “Simple Simpson” both good and illustrative, which helps.
