This past weekend was WrestleMania. If you are on Twitter (and increasingly few people are), you were well aware of this. Professional wrestling is huge on Twitter. During WrestleMania on Sunday, Snoop Dogg became a top trend, and it was because of his work at WrestleMania, of all things.
So here is what happened. Shane McMahon made a surprise appearance. Shane-o-Mac is the son of Vince McMahon, noted creep and longtime face of WWE. He’s been around forever, and I remember back in the day when he and his Mean Street Posse ran wild. A lot of people are down on Shane, who has a reputation of being self-aggrandizing in the ring. Also, for throwing the worst fake punches in pro wrestling. This, I recall vividly.
Anyway, he shows up at WrestleMania to have a match with The Miz, who was on Real World, but after I stopped watching it. People were not enthused on Twitter. Then, he hurt himself, apparently badly. There was a lot of schadenfreude about that, which is maybe a little much. However, this was a live event. What could WWE do? Turn to Snoop Dogg!
Snoop was lending his celebrity to WrestleMania, which was in Los Angeles, his hometown. He was called upon to, out of nowhere, have a “match” with The Miz. Evidently, it was quite swift. Snoop threw a couple punches, and then did the People’s Elbow, The Rock’s move. He didn’t have an elbow pad, though. He just mimed that part. Also, he ran the ropes in a totally wild way. Then, Snoop pinned The Miz. He won a match at WrestleMania!
Snoop Dogg has had a circuitous life and an interesting career. Now, it includes winning a WrestleMania match, which made Twitter explode. Not too shabby. Better than Soul Plane.
