The first season of Breaking Bad was truncated. It did well enough to keep the series about a high school teacher’s foray into meth production and distribution going. In time, Breaking Bad would become one of the most-beloved dramas in the history of the medium. It was season two when the show really emerged, and here is my ranking of every episode of that season of television.
13. “Bit By a Dead Bee”
12. “Peekaboo”
11. “Breakage”
10. “Down”
9. “Negro y Azul”
8. “Over”
7. “Phoenix”
6. “ABQ”
5. “Mandala”
4. “Seven Thirty-Seven”
3. “Better Call Saul”
2. “Grilled”
1. “4 Days Out”
First, it’s nice that these episodes all have detailed synopses on Wikipedia, which makes it easier to refresh my memory. Season two of Breaking Bad is definitely a step up from season one, though it is season three where things really pick up. If the show had stayed at this level, it would have gone down as a good drama you remember fondly, but definitely would not be an iconic show in my book.
This season introduced a few key characters in Gus, Mike, and of course Saul Goodman. We also said goodbye to Tuco, as the actor had other obligations. However, both of his episodes are in my top four, so clearly they did well by him. Those two episodes also helped to establish Hank as a better character. All that said, my top episode is basically just Walt and Jesse isolated. They remained the heart of the show.
I tipped my hand about my feelings of season three as a whole, but next time around, I get to ranking those episodes.
