Few, if any, performers in modern music boast the sort of credits that Vineet Singh Hukmani claims. An alumni of Harvard Business School, an electronics engineer, and co-founder of Radio One, Vineet is also a formidable songwriter and conceptualist. He’s attuned to the tastes of modern music listeners after spending 12 years with the aforementioned Radio One and the lessons learned during that tenure influenced his musical rise. He is the first artist to score nine number 1 positions on the European Indie Top 100 chart, a feat accomplished in 2021, and has branched out into other areas as well.
His Greatsong.world foundation aids Asian musicians in utilizing appropriate platforms to promote and publicize their music. He followed up the aforementioned nine #1 hits with a book of short stories, Nine, accompanied by songs for each of those stories. His new project, however, is the most ambitious yet. Run Storm & the Hope Star is a comic book and 3D animated film depicting Hukamni as a superhero figure. The first song from this project, “Run! Run! Run!”, is arguably his finest single yet.
It’s certainly propulsive, if nothing else. His melodic gifts are on full display, however, as “Run! Run! Run!” scoops up willing listeners and sweeps them away. The steady and irrepressible energy of this song is one of its glaring strengths and culminates with a powerful chorus. It gets under your skin with a single listen. The foundation of it all, however, is a headlong tempo that connects in a physical way with listeners while still delivering a life-affirming message.
The synthesizer driven arrangement radiates warmth. Hukmani has worked in this mode before and shows a shrewd understanding of how to use electronic instruments. He gets maximum effect out of this arrangement and his vocals complement the sonic attack. There’s warmth in his voice as well, but it’s the confident glide of his phrasing that does much to carry listeners through this track.
His conversational lyrics are intelligent and eschew obscurity. They are general, however, designed for mass appeal rather than written for a niche audience. Hukmani makes it clear that he’s interested in connection at every turn and his wont for crowd pleasing songcraft is a huge reason why he’s so popular. He doesn’t try going over the listener’s head with pseudo-poetic babble but, instead, writes songs for all of us.
It’s an excellent introduction to the multiverse that Hukmani envisions for this new project. “Run! Run! Run!” ushers listeners into another world of high adventure full of verve and life, sans any extraneous baggage. His assertive yet stylish performance will make converts of anyone still unfamiliar with Hukmani’s talents and longtime fans of the Indian artist will embrace the track as a stirring affirmation of why they follow his music. It’s another chapter in Vineet Singh Hukmani’s story and perhaps the most impressive one yet. This new project is definitely shaping up to be one of the marquee releases for 2023 and leaves us asking what game-changing achievements may be next for this performer.
