Mega Bog Presents New Single/Video | New Album Out Friday

Mega Bog is “an undeniable force” (NPR Music). This Friday, the experimental pop outfit fronted by Erin Birgy will release End of Everything, her highly anticipated album Mexican Summer. Today, Birgy presents its brooding final single/video, “All and Everything.” How to encompass “all and everything,” Birgy questions — how to dance in this burning world, how to wail and grind and surrender, how to share energy as well as learned tools. This practice of hopeful speculation is paired with an inner darkness, and the result is as thought-provoking as it is anthemic.

The accompanying video completes a series of music videos Birgy crafted across Greece and Los Angeles for End of Everything, and was filmed by Birgy, James Krivchenia and Daniel McIntyre. “The video is loosely based on my visual emotional connection to the book Lavinia by Ursula K. Le Guin, a story of a woman growing up in the ancient, pagan Mediterranean,” Birgy states.

Of the track, Birgy adds: “‘All and Everything’ was written immediately after my friend and I stole away to the cemetery to experience our first break in a very long sadness, marching around the dusk and climbing cement burial boxes while basting Franco Battiato and Vangelis at the beginning of our own epic poem together.”

End of Everything delivers a hit straight to collective awareness and healing. In 2020, Birgy was surrounded by seemingly endless turmoil: mass death, a burning planet, and a personal reckoning when past traumas met fresh ones. Living in Los Angeles, against the backdrop of horrifying forest fires, she questioned what perspective to use moving forward in such dumbfounded awe. Deciding to seize something tangible, she produced a record that spoke of surrender, of mourning, and support in the face of tumultuous self-reflection. End of Everything is a treacherous expression; at once an apocalyptic end, but also making space for new possibilities.

End of Everything was recorded with James Krivchenia (Big Thief) who co-produced the record with Birgy and played drums, bringing his rhythmic mastery and wild percussive spirit. Krivchenia also mixed the record and co-engineered it with Phil Hartunian. The album’s fantastical textures and heavy polyphony owe a great deal to synthesizer maestro and pianist Aaron OtheimZach Burba, one of the founding members of Mega Bog, plays bass, while Will SegerstromMeg Duffy (Hand Habits), and Jackson Macintosh (Drugdealer, TOPS) contribute electric guitars.

End of Everything is a multifaceted body of work accompanied by The Practice of Hell Ending, Birgy’s first published collection of poetry. Written alongside the album, The Practice of Hell Ending beckons the reader to travel further into the landscapes of Birgy’s inner worlds.

This summer, Birgy will play a handful of shows in the US and UK in support of End of Everything. Full dates are listed below and tickets are on sale now.
