Looks like actress Millie Bobby Brown can clear those peky acting awards from her roll-top desk and replace ‘em with a trusty Underwood typewriter…
Fresh off of The Hollywood Reporter press comes the news today that Stranger Things stalwart Millie Bobby Brown will be releasing her freshman novel Nineteen Steps this coming September from publisher William Morrow.
So what’s Nineteen Steps all about and why is one of the most in-demand actresses in Hollywood taking time away from the screen to indulge her proclivity for writing? Answers: We got ‘em, Dear and Constant Reader…
Nineteen Steps is an extremely personal novel for Brown, inspired by and delving into the history of her grandmother who survived the World War II Bethnal Green tube tragedy. In the official synopsis from William Morrow, the novel will focus on the character of Nellie after she “becomes enchanted with the idea of a broader world. Just when Nellie begins to embrace an exciting new life with Ray, a terrible incident occurs during an air raid one evening, and the consequences are catastrophic. As the truth about that night is revealed, Nellie’s world is torn apart. When it seems all hope is lost, Nellie finds that, against all odds, love and happiness can triumph.”
In a press release announcing her trek into the literary world, Brown said that “Inspired by my Nanny Ruth, this book is very personal and close to my heart. I grew up listening to stories about her time living through the war. I’m honored to keep her story alive.”
In their own press release touting the new novel, William Morrow Big Wheel Liz Stein said that “Nineteen Steps is a tender, inspiring story about female resilience and the human spirit. Both heart-warming and heart-breaking, it’s a novel that portrays the strength and courage we find in family, friendship and community. I was incredibly moved by the haunting, true tragedy at the core of the novel and enchanted by the unforgettable portrait of love in the time of war.”
