How Riding an E-Scooter Helps Your Fitness Quotient

It’s common knowledge that electric scooters do have powerful motors, like the  Mearth S, S Pro entry level commuter e-scooters, and Mearth RS and RS Pro ultimate long-range e-scooters, assuredly Australia’s renowned, well-loved brand, and has now made a touchdown in ethereal New Zealand.

No need to exert much energy or work up a sweat, just to keep these rideables in motion, right?

But, surprise, surprise! Because when you ride an electric scooter for any given length of time, you are actually moving those muscles more than you actually thought.

E-scooters are: 1. Environment-friendly, 2. Lightweight, 3. Compact, 4. Foldable and 5. Portable – making them a fast, fun way to commute.

But, hey, did you know that e-scooters also provide a range of health benefits, including improving one’s fitness – uh, quotient?

Going for the low-intensity workout – with an electric scooter.

So, if you’re not so good at committing to a regular exercise that makes you huff and puff, getting you sweaty all over, you might as well start a less stressful fitness routine — ride an electric scooter to work.

You don’t believe it? Riding an e-scooter allows you an easier way to start out a low-intensity workout, without leaving you feeling completely exhausted. Riding an electric scooter to get where you intend to go allows you to start slow, and you still get a good workout – minus the feeling of having the need to push yourself too hard.

A bit of a reminder, because riding this personal mobility device is really working your muscles, you may feel a bit of delayed muscle soreness, especially if you decide to ride for too long when you’re getting started.

The good thing though, is that once you get used to riding your e-scooter, you are more comfortable with the idea of increasing the intensity of your workout. How? By changing your route, riding through, or going on different terrains. You may want to tackle some smaller hills. You’ll later be pleasantly surprised how much better you’re getting at taking those tight turns — quickly too! Take it even further and ride a non electric scooter such as these stunt Core Scooters that will give you a proper workout!

Talking about fitness quotient, the FQ has been calculated by taking measurements of thousands of people and applying some statistical analysis to work out the average values for people of different ages and sex.

For some, it may be a bit overwhelming for most to understand the stats in detail. A simpler term is mentioned by Mayo Clinic, whereby fitness is generally assessed in 4 key areas: aerobic fitness; muscular strength and endurance; flexibility; and body composition.

So how’s that? Achievable, right?

Basically, electric scooters are doing their share in helping to improve a person’s fitness quotient. For starters, riding an e-scooter helps you build core strength, even when you’re doing it quite unconsciously.

When you say your core, it isn’t something that you can switch on or off — it’s always going to be on your center, your heart. If somebody said to you: try getting out of bed without using your core, it can’t be done, because every time you sneeze, cough or laugh, the central part of your body, the core is contracting, so it’s important you build ample core strength for whatever task you’re going to do.”

For example, let’s say you’ve never ridden an electric scooter before, you’ll probably try to balance yourself by holding on to the handlebars when you begin to ride your Mearth S entry level commuter electric scooter for the first time. But the more you ride your e-scooter, you’ll find that tightening your core muscles is the right way to stabilize yourself”.

Accelerate, decelerate, brake, and turn over and over, again. Doing these maneuvers repeatedly will make your core muscles tighten, and then relax. Soon, you’ll get better at riding and you will naturally build strength in your core muscles.

By frequently riding, over time, it will be a subconscious action that will help you achieve and maintain a correct position, posture and provide you with greater support, balance, control, and strength.

Balance is one of the major components of any health-related exercise, so even if it seems balancing is like a basic skill, riding an e-scooter will help you develop it further without requiring much effort. This is particularly useful for those who are awkward, just starting out, balancing may be difficult but over time it’ll become second nature.

Balance is closely connected to your core strength. As you ride, you tone your core muscles while you get the opportunity to improve your balance. Notably, riding an electric scooter requires you to stabilize yourself as you go around bends, turning on corners, zipping up or down hills, and then slowing down on traffic stop signs. This is very beneficial, because as you get older, your joints start to weaken. Word of advice: when riding an e-scooter, always maintain an equal weight on both sides so as not to tip over.
