Interview With Nikki Paige Explaining The Deeper Meaning Of “Boycotting”

Just recently, Nikki Paige blessed the internet with yet another intuitive song and music video. We sat down with her and was given a behind-the-song explanation of what the song was about. Below is a portion of our interview:

Can you share the inspiration behind the lyrics of the new song?

I was sitting on my porch at Club Malibu with Greg Hannley and a few others talking about abortion rights and I thought to myself, wouldn’t it be crazy if all the girls just stopped having sex like if we really were boycotting and I said wait I can’t even talk about this yet I don’t even know if we’re ready.

Can you tell us about the process of recording and producing the track?

I had to find the right producer, I had to find the right chord progression, and when I least expected it I met this guy named Chris Jack we called him shredder. He just started playing some chords and he really Inspired me. Then and there everything stopped. I had been trying to write this song for months and just never found the right person to do it with. I got really excited and just started singing. I thought I was saying too much. I thought I was doing too much but the encouragement was there. You know I’m running around like a crazy person worried about being canceled and I just said I don’t care, this is what we’re doing and that’s what you’re going to hear.

How do you envision fans receiving this new release?

I envision fans receiving this release as a very controversial movement where I might lose fans. I don’t know what the point of being an artist is if you really can’t talk about what you want to talk about in the microphone. This isn’t about shaking your ass, it’s not this song to get back to me in the next one. This is just how I feel, I expect everyone to say that I’m doing this for a different reason and it’s not true again. I’m speaking on all of this shit based off of experience and many people can relate. So I guess I’m just gonna be singing to them. Songs allow listeners to think. music is healing even if it shows a dark story. Show up to the show and let’s talk about it or sit on the sidelines and be the reason why we make the music we make.

Can you share any exciting collaborations or features on the track?

I’m thinking about making five versions of this song. Collaborations features or welcomed. Remixes as well. I would love to be a part of something that makes other people want to get on it. All they Gotta do is DM me. I’m not that hard to find.

What do you hope listeners take away from the new song?

I hope this song inspires listeners or whatever audience we get to to take that terrible memory and talk about it, so they can put it away and grow from it. I hope it inspires listeners to be more careful about when you go out and that goes for the people that are considering putting something in somebody’s drink. I hope they think about it. I hope they watch the video and they see the trauma and the potential over a fantasy. Its really that necessary to go that far to torture someone maybe it’s too deep but sometimes talking about that is therapy, but envisioning it and hearing it is another thing. I don’t know all the protocols of what I can and I cannot say I am just trying to enlighten people before they do what they do either for selfish reasons or if something happens to them there’s so many ways to take care of it and get help.
