Phoebe Waller-Bridge Dusts Off Typewriter for Upcoming New Spin On “Tomb Raider”

Ever since actress and writer Phoebe Waller-Bridge hit the scene with a star-making turn in the surprise television hit Fleabag (one of Barack Obama’s favorite series when it first came out, by the by), there has been no slowing down for this creative force. Don’t believe us? The proof is in the hasty pudding which is some very notable writing gigs in projects like Killing Eve and No Time to Die. The upcoming box office seems to favor her also, namely in the form of a little film coming out called Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny where she’ll put on her thespian cap yet again. So where does this very obvious creative engenue go to after all of the above feathers in her cap? According to our Angelina Jolie fanatics over at The Hollywood Reporter, the Solo scribe will be in charge of reviving the dormant Lara Croft/Tombraider franchise.

Amazon has contracted writer and actress Phoebe Waller-Bridge to write the scripts for an upcoming television series which is to be based off of the ever-popular video game Tomb Raider. Prior to the 37 year-old Ealing, London native getting a shot at bringing this property to life, most folks out there knew actresses Angelian Jolie and Alicia Vikander as the action maven on the big screen, with an animated version of the character brought to life in an anime series voiced by the redoubtable Hayley Atwell.

Waller-Bridge will not be portraying Lara Croft (that would be too good to be true), and at press time, there was no word about who would be doing the honors of transforming into this woman of action. Jennifer Lawrence – the original action star – perhaps? (It’s all in good fun, Dear and Constant Reader)

The news of Waller-Bridge’s iteration of Tomb Raider closely follows the recent headlines about a new video game and a new motion picture also set to feature Lara Croft. We can confirm that Waller-Bridge will not be involved in those two very different versions of the character.

We’ll keep all of our ever-loyal readers up-to-dare on any and all Tomb Raider news as it leaps, jumps and tumbles into us, action-star style!
