“Lightning The Queen” from JD Lion ft. Animalweapon is an official direction shift. (shifting to my words), After playing some shows around the country, I found that my live show is decidedly more aggressive than the music I was making, so I finally decided to lean in go a little bit more of an EDM/House/Dance direction going forward. I made a lot of Ambient style, and I DO consider myself “genreless” but going forward, “Lightning The Queen” is going to be more of the norm than previous releases. After I released “Little Trouble” last summer and the continued streams of “All The Time In The World”, I really saw the response of the more uptempo numbers being responsive and it was a no brainer.
“Lightning The Queen” was sort of born out of my hearing issues and was a total joke at first. When I’m not making records and touring, I do some teaching, and when I was with one of my students, we were talking about Lightning McQueen from the movie Cars, and I heard it as “Lightning The Queen.” My student had no idea what I was talking about and was laughing at me. I in turn found that hysterical and I built a song off of that. Kachow! My collaboration with Animalweapon came out of being a fan of the podcast Undisclosed, which is an absolute smasher with their coverage of Adnan Syed’s legal issues, Joey Watkins, etc. Animalweapon did the music and production and I dug his music, so I reached out to him on a whim. We connected and became good buds, and working on this song together was an absolute blast. I had ideas, he had ideas, and we just went to work. Now, we’re friends for life, and we got the best working relationship. It’s been amazing and you can expect some stuff from us together in the future. I’m super proud of his contribution on this single. He let me know that this was a bit out of his comfort zone, but with his stretching, pressure yielded diamonds, and this song is what it is because of his parts. You just have to listen! I’m really excited for the upcoming releases that I have. Look out for a release in April and releases Summer and Fall 2023!
