“Malcom in the Middle” Star Frankie Muniz Set to Produce and Star in Docuseries “Frankie in the Fastlane”

“Our little boy is all grows up tonight. You know what big boy? You’re grown up. You’re grown up! Yeaaaheyha! Dig that!”

Actor Vince Vaughn once famously intoned the above quote in Doug Liman’s bittersweet comedy Swingers and, though he was addressing fellow co-star Jon Favreau, he might as well have been speaking across the gulf of decades to former child actor turned Nascar driver Frankie Muniz. A lot of years have passed since Muniz wowed television audiences with a deft and sure-footed turn in creator Linwood Boomer’s hit series Malcom in the Middle, but time has been kind to the Agent Cody Banks star: Still baby-faced and possessing an aire about him which belies a person who always has a secret little joke rolling around in his head, Muniz has long held as his chief passion in life not the ever-fickle world of acting, but instead the fast-paced world of race car driving. Now – according to our Days of Thunder pals over at The Hollywood Reporter – Muniz is set to chronicle his foray into professional racing in an upcoming docuseries entitled Frankie in the Fastlane.

No, Frankie in the Fastlane is not a recently unearthed and previously unknown Frankie Avalon and Annette Funicello beach movie, but rather a behind-the-scenes look at Frankie Muniz as he dives head-first into the arena of Nascar, attempting to prove his own considerable driving skills alongside some of the biggest names in professional race car driving; eat your heart out, Paul Newman!

In a press release announcing the docuseries, Speed Racer himself – Frankie Muniz – said that “I’m proud of my past accomplishments and for being remembered as Malcolm, for example. It’s a great feeling to have made an impact on people in that way, but when I’m in that seat, in the car and on the track, I know in my soul that racing as a professional driver is what I was made to do. I’m excited to partner with a company like NEO Studios that really understands sports and competition programming, and to bring viewers along on this crazy journey and share my love of racing with the world.”

No word on a streaming service or cable network pick-up as of this writing, but with globally recognized brand NEO Studios (Legacy: In the Shadow of Greatness) shopping it around, it’s probably only a matter of time until we’re all racing alongside Muniz as he attempts to tackle that fast-moving brass ring known as Nascar.
