Oscar-Nominated Actor Jeremy Renner Hospitalized in Critical Condition After Accident

Not how we wanted to kick off 2023…

Acclaimed actor Jeremy Renner is in the hospital today in critical but stable condition after being involved in what looks to be a snow plow accident on Sunday.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, authorities responded to Renner’s residence in the Reno, Nevada area after receiving a call for emergency assistance.

“We can confirm Jeremy is in critical but stable condition with injuries suffered after experiencing a weather-related accident while plowing snow earlier today,” a spokesman for the celebrated actor relayed to The Hollywood Reporter. “His family is with him, and he is receiving excellent care.”

According to reports from public information officer Kristin Vietti, the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office in the Reno, Nevada area received a call to respond to The Avengers star’s residence in the location of Mt. Rose Highway immediately after the accident.

“Upon arrival, deputies coordinated with Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District and REMSA Health to arrange for medical transport of Mr. Jeremy Renner via care flight to a local area hospital,” Vietti elaborated. “Mr. Renner was the only involved party.” As is par the course for such accidents, the major investigation team at the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office is presently attempting to put together the precise series of events which led to this accident.

In recent weeks, Renner had taken to social media to talk about the extreme snowfalls in the area of Nevada in which he and his family live, posts which seem sadly prophetic in light of his accident.

Renner is a widely-respected actor whose work in the lauded films The Hurt Locker and The Town garnered him major acclaim and two back-to-back Oscar nominations. It’s through his work in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the swashbuckling superhero Hawkeye in films like The Avengers: Endgame and Thor that Renner really broke through to more mainstream audiences, however. Renner has continued that character arc into the Disney+ series Hawkeye. The thespian has an ongoing series, too, from Paramount+ entitled Mayor of Kingstown which is set to debut its sophomore season this January 15.

We’re all big fans of Jeremy Renner here at Vents (this tin-eared journalist loved his two-episode stint on Louie as well as his work alongside Joaquin Phoenix in director James Gray’s The Immigrant) and join with a whole world full of folks who are wishing him the speediest of recoveries.
