2023 is right around the corner. There are plenty of movies scheduled for the year already, some of which have us excited. In fact, looking at the first quarter of the year, here are five films we are looking forward to checking out. That isn’t always easy to do, as January and February remain “Dumpuary,” when movie studios will drop films they expect to flop (shout out to M3GAN and 80 for Brady). For the first three months of the year, here are five movies to check out.
1. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania
Anytime an MCU movie is hitting theaters, it is going to make a splash. This is a particularly big one, though. Quantumania is expected to kick off the next stage of the Marvel storyline with gusto. Kang is making his big-screen debut as a villain. Plus, the first two Ant-Man movies are arguably underrated. They are really fun.

2. Cocaine Bear
A bear…eats a bunch of cocaine. This looks like a bonkers, violent horror-comedy. The cast is intriguing, including the late Ray Liotta. Elizabeth Banks directed, and this is a different kind of film for her. We’re intrigued to see how she does with the bear that does cocaine.

3. Shazam! Fury of the Gods
The DC films are in tumult. Now, Shazam! Fury of the Gods hit theaters. The first film was a pleasant surprise. Can the sequel be a beacon of hope? Or will it be like Wonder Woman 1984, a lukewarm sequel that paved the way to a nixed third film?

4. John Wick: Chapter 4
You know what to expect. It’s a John Wick movie. The film is going to be filled with violent and action and needlessly convoluted lore. If you like cool, inventive gunplay, you may never tire of these films. A fourth feels justified, but will the treads be a little bare on this action vehicle?

5. Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves
They have tried to do a Dungeons & Dragons movie before. It failed. However, fantasy stories remain popular, and the iconic RPG game remains a known quantity, even to those who have never played. This time, Chris Pine is starring, which should help. Can this be the Dungeons & Dragons movie that clicks? We shall see.
