PTtheGospelSpitter Releases Kingdom

If there’s one thing 2022 could have used a whole lot more of, it’s inspirational music. Answering the call for positivity of the most divine strain possible is none other than PTtheGospelSpitter and a well-chosen collaborator in Stephen Voyce, who team up for a new single in “Kingdom” that is almost guaranteed to leave gospel fans and pop music lovers everywhere feeling a little more optimistic about the day than they did beforehand.

Ashante P.T. Stokes – the man behind the PTtheGospelSpitter moniker – is a part of a scene that is having a banner year for its freshest talent, and with a track like this one under his belt, he makes it all the more difficult for the pop establishment to dismiss him as just another CCM singer, rapper, and songwriter.

There’s no hesitation in the vocal execution here; to be perfectly frank, there’s so much confidence coming from both of these players that it’s contagious. The audience is never allowed to slip into the warm tonal foundation atop which Stokes harmonizes and produces what could be the most indulgent chorus in all of gospel this winter, but instead, we’re drawn closer to the flash point of the melody through lyrics that welcome us rather than intimidate those it seeks to leave out of the equation.

The arrangement for “Kingdom” is very to the point and representative of a frills-free attitude PTtheGospelSpitter is bringing with him into the spotlight, which is not something I’ve been seeing a lot of his contemporaries compete with lately. It might take him a moment to get back into the studio and record a proper full-length album, but judging from the results of his labor in this performance, I would say the distance he’s got between himself and the professional environment is getting smaller thanks to the development of his long-term potential as a musician outside of the studio.

I sincerely hope that the sessions for this single don’t mark the lone opportunities these two players have to work with each other on a project, because if it were, I think we would be missing out on a lot of magic still to be exploited between Stokes and Stephen Voyce. Voyce brings out a different side of his counterpart here that wouldn’t have been accessible in different circumstances, and the same goes for Stokes with him. The chemistry is unforced and organic, which is everything in an endeavor in gospel or pop music the same.

If quality music is your thing, there should be no doubt as to whether or not PTtheGospelSpitter is a young player you can trust with your time and money this winter, and I won’t be the only music fan who will tell you so. “Kingdom” feels like a touching point for what could evolve into a really special career in an industry that could benefit substantially from an artist of his caliber and potential, and once you check out this track’s angelically light harmonies and sleek hip-hop rhymes for yourself, I think you just might agree with me.
