Topping the Jazz album charts with his new LP Nowhere But Here II, multi-instrumental composer Brian Ligon, proves to be one of the most promising musicians of his generation. We came together with the talented artist to talk about his recent success, future plans, and how he intends to break into the movie business.
Firstly, I want to congratulate you for reaching the number one spot on iTunes for the Jazz album Nowhere But Here II. How do you feel about all that hard work paying off?
Thanks! It’s awesome to see the music get that type of reception for its release.
Have new opportunities arisen, following the successful debut of the new instrumental record? Did any notable artist contact you for a collaboration?
The release of Nowhere But Here II has allowed me to continue to reach new listeners and fans. I’ve been producing music for some major artists like Beyoncé, Drake, and Lil Wayne, to name a few, through the completion and release of Nowhere But Here II. I think the release of Nowhere But Here II showcases my versatility and unique sound as a music producer that may interest other artists.
Tell us more about the album and what inspired you to create it! What would you like to accomplish with it?
Composing original music has always been a passion of mine, it’s part of my legacy, and a gift to share with others. I feel it’s a great way to honor God and my parents with the blessings given to me. I hope to reach as many listeners as possible generating more fans who enjoy my music, inspiring people, and also be recognized and awarded Grammys by the Recording Academy. I’m also developing skills for composing music for Film and Tv.
I read in a recent interview that you wanted to collaborate with the likes of Beyonce and Drake. What would your creative process look like for such a project?
I’ve been a fan of Beyoncé since her teenage years, getting started with Destiny’s Child. While producing music for Beyoncé I’m focused on composing new original music to showcase her vocal greatness. I’m an old soul but I try to incorporate all my musical influences including Jazz, R&B, Funk, Hip-Hop, and Pop to create a unique modern musical landscape for her to explore artistically as well as to sing using her range as a vocalist. Producing for Drake also consists of me blending different genres of music to create a unique sound for him to showcase his versatile talent as an artist.
We’ve heard that you’re learning more about composition for Film & TV. Would you like to share more about your future plans in that area? Are you interested in composing original music and scores for Hollywood movies?
I started taking Berklee courses in music composition for film and tv to learn about it. My main interest is composing original music and scores for Hollywood movies of various genres. I feel it will make me a better musician but I also think it’d be cool to be a part of the storytelling of film and tv by contributing the music. I think the quality of music in film and tv can be just as important as the quality of the acting, directing, and production for the viewer’s experience.
In your professional opinion, do you think that instrumental albums are easier or more difficult to make? Or perhaps you don’t see any difference between instrumental and non-instrumental?
I fully agree that technology greatly simplifies and speeds up various processes, whether it is the creation of music albums or even the development of gambling platforms. In this context, it is worth mentioning Sky247 https://sky247india.com online casino review that shows how modern technology makes gambling platforms more interactive, secure and user-friendly. So, whether you work in the music industry or are a gambling enthusiast, modern technology offers solutions to improve your experience.
What was the most difficult challenge you had to overcome till now?
One of the most difficult challenges was finding myself musically as an artist. I’m a trained jazz musician in piano and alto saxophone, throughout the years of lessons I was performing traditional jazz and classical music composed by others. In my development as a music producer I started studying my favorite songs and popular music to understand what I was gravitating to musically. Over the years I started composing original music that I believe represents me with an unique enjoyable quality of sound, and it was time to start publishing my music as an artist.
