Rilakumma and Kaoru is a stop-motion animation series on Netflix, creating a sensation and taking over anime lovers with its adorable yet fascinating characters. First introduced in 2003, Rilakkuma started as a product line that soon became one of the most popular characters in Japan and slowly gained its foothold in other parts of the world.

Korilakkuma
Korilakkuma is a small, cute white bear cub with unknown origins who became friends with Rilakkuma after appearing in Kaoru’s apartment one day. Korilakkuma loves strawberries, is highly energetic, and is very curious. The bear cub often causes trouble for its friend Rilakkuma with its mischievous antics. Korilakkuma is very attached to Rilakkuma and follows it around, trying to mimic everything it does.
Korilakkuma enjoys listening to music and looks adorable while sleeping, though it could be pretty noisy because of its loud snores. Despite its naughty antics, Korilakkuma is exceptionally lovable and brings happiness to those around the cub.
Kiiroitori
Kiiroitori is a tiny yellow chick with an orange beak who appears in the popular Japanese anime, Rilakkuma and Friends. Unlike the lazy Rilakkuma, Kiiroitori is hard-working and likes to keep things clean. This little character is also very organized, saving treasures it finds throughout its adventures. While Kiiroitori is often critical of Rilakkuma and Korilakkuma for their laziness and mischievousness, the chick still cares deeply for them. It sometimes feels that it is tough on the other two characters and scolds them too much.
Overall, Kiiroitori provides a unique contrast to the other characters in the show and has a more rational perspective on the world around it.
Kaoru
Kaoru is a soft-spoken, mild-mannered woman in her thirties who works as an office lady. In most episodes, she is seen wearing office clothing since her character is built to be a hard-working professional. However, in a few episodes, she also wears home-wear-like clothes, like a kimono. Kaoru lives with Rilakkuma, Korilakkuma and Kiiroitori. As the main human character in the series, she is often tasked with caring for her furry friends, ensuring they don’t cause too much trouble.
Despite her gentle nature, Kaoru is also a competent worker capable of handling any situation that comes her way. Kaoru is a reliable friend who always has time for her furry companions.
Hayate
Hayate is one of the original characters created for the series and introduced in March 2019. He is Tokio’s cousin and Kaoru’s love interest. He was introduced in the latter part of the season when Kaoru started to spend a lot of money on exercise equipment and tried to maintain a healthy diet to lose weight. However, it is soon revealed that she did this primarily to get Hayate’s attention.
Hayate is a kind and caring individual who eventually falls for Kaoru’s affection.
Tokio
Tokio is a lonely boy who is also Kaoru’s neighbor, living in the same apartment complex. Tokio’s character is shown to have disheveled brown hair owing to the absence of caring parents. He has gray eyes and wears a gray and teal striped sweater with dark blue shorts and light blue shoes. With his parents often away on business, and no siblings to play with, Tokio wanders around the apartment complex, looking for someone to talk to.
Although mischievous, deep down, Tokio is a lonely young boy. As such, Kaoru is seen being kind to this little neighbor, and Tokio also starts visiting her to meet Rilakkuma and its friends.
Sayu
Sayu is an office worker at Samejima Corp and one of Kaoru’s colleagues. Her character has long orange hair and brown eyes and is seen wearing a pink sweater. Sayu is shown to be a lazy and self-absorbed person, because of which she is not well-liked by her co-workers.
Sayu was also introduced in the series with Hayate and Tokio in March 2019. Overall, Sayu is a minor but memorable character in the series.
