Halloween is over, but it’s not quite holiday movie season for me yet. Soon, but not yet! I was looking for something to watch, and I found a show that’s Halloween adjacent, but more ‘90s cartoon adjacent, and that is why it is my recommendation for this weekend.
The show in question is The Real Ghostbusters. While it began in 1986, it ran until 1991. There were seven seasons and 130 episodes. That’s a lot for a Saturday morning cartoon! It definitely lasted into syndication, because I watched The Real Ghostbusters as a kid. The show is based off of Ghostbusters, of course, adapting the “real” into the name for legal reasons. Now, the show is different than the movie. The characters look different. Also, Slimer is friends with the Ghostbusters.
The Ghostbusters crew, with more Janice and also Slimer as a friend, take on different spooks and specters from episode to episode. There was definitely a haunted toilet, because I had that toy as a kid. Honestly, I didn’t remember the show all that much. I just know I really enjoyed it as a kid. I’m not a nostalgia person, so I don’t watch stuff because I enjoyed it when I was young. That being said, I was curious when I saw all seven seasons were in Amazon Prime.
I mean, The Real Ghostbusters isn’t amazing. It’s not the greatest cartoon of all-time. However, it’s amusing, it has some fun monsters, and I liked the animation style. Worth a full weekend of bingeing? That’s up for debate, but if you like animation, or nostalgia, more than me, than you have seven seasons of a classic ‘80s and ‘90s cartoon to enjoy. Purge the last bit of Halloween from your system and get hyped for the holidays.
