Right now, the World Cup is going on. That means there is only one thing to talk about, and that’s the film Air Bud: World Pup. The name is so close! Almost as if though it is a pun on World Cup!
World Pup is the third film in the Air Bud series. First, there was Air Bud, where Buddy played basketball. Then, there was Golden Receiver, where he played football. In the third film, it was time to play soccer. This would be followed by baseball and volleyball, but those sports, and thus those films, aren’t relevant now. It’s all about World Pup.
This was the first direct-to-video film in the Air Bud series, but certainly not the last. It’s the usual stuff. Buddy is owned by a family with a kid. The kid plays a sport. Buddy proves to be good at the sport. Complications ensue. Everything is OK in the end. This time, the sport is soccer. The kid is named Josh. His team is called the Timberwolves, which makes sense since Buddy is a dog. Would you believe Buddy also helps the U.S. women’s national team beat Norway at the Women’s World Cup? He does!
Oh, Buddy has puppies as well. This perhaps is why the Air Buddies movies happened. Miguel Sandoval and Martin Ferraro are in the film too. They are both in Jurassic Park. Ferraro plays the lawyer, Donald Gennaro. In World Pup, he plays Snerbert.
Anyway, it would be nice if Buddy could help the U.S. men’s team win the 2022 World Cup. Alas, his soccer-playing days are over.
