In this weekly feature, we’ll be bringing you 5 of these artists to listen to and check out in what we’re naming our “Special 5”. So, pop on your headphones, and take a listen to this week’s 5 tracks below…

Tawiah – Ertha

Lose yourself in the soulful world of singer-songwriter Tawiah’s poignant second album, Ertha, created in collaboration with artist Al Moore. Ertha is a concept album, created collaboratively through a process of storytelling and musical interpretation. Through a series of original writings and poems, Al tells a story of the human journey from birth to death. Tawiah composed music in response to these writings. The pair describe the process as akin to an actor and director working with a script, and the outcome is a cohesive musical story, which makes for a great listen from track 1, “Universe I”, through to track 10, “Universe IV”.

Two Goats in a Canoe – “Jericho”

Two Goats in a Canoe are back with their intriguing new single, “Jericho”, following the success of their previous tracks “Lost”, “Funky Chunky Groovy Cool” and “Buttercup”. The song is brought to life with the band’s unique vocals and the track’s catchy indie-pop production, which features cajon, keyboards, guitars and bass. Based in Scotland, the band formed in 2019 and consists of singer-songwriter Peter, guitarist Craig, pianist and vocalist Katie, percussionist and vocalist Amy and bass player Greg.

Sean Leary – “I Don’t Like You”

Sean Leary is a pop-punk singer-songwriter and artist from Boston, Massachusetts. There’s immediately so much to love about his new single, “I Don’t Like You”, as the chorus is reminiscent of the glory days of blink-182, and it packs a melodic punch that sticks in your head. Full of character and the lovely vocals from Vana Beara, this single brings a slightly different offering and is extremely catchy. It shows that this music is still very much alive and kicking, and Sean Leary is pioneering the modern power pop-punk era.

dePresno – “Silence”

25-year-old dePresno is a musician from Bergen on the west coast of Norway. He released his latest album, Places, in June 2021, which saw songs like “Bitter St” become Spotify successes, gaining streams in the millions and increasing dePresno’s already large following in Norway and beyond. 2022 is being drawn to a close with dePresno’s second release of the year, “Silence”. A glistening and emotive piano ballad, dePresno’s captivating low vocal takes centre stage once again in this beautifully laid out offering. The production is delicate and builds throughout, with the gentle swirls of the snares sitting underneath the soft and inviting voice that dePresno so effortlessly creates.

Sunday Honey – “seven five zero”

Sunday Honey are a four-piece alternative-rock band based on the Mornington Peninsula in Victoria, Australia. Consisting of members Elliott Willis (lead vocals, rhythm guitar), Fox DeRoche (drums, vocals), Max Hilli (bass guitar) and Callum Johnson (lead guitar), the emerging quartet combine their shared love for old fashioned rock ‘n’ roll with a modern, enhanced twist, also described as ‘honey soul’ by the outfit. Their new single, “seven five zero”, is out now. Full of indie rock and shoegaze nuances, the band hold a real togetherness in what has been a very short space of time performing as a group, proving they are already onto something incredibly special.
