1.) We’re super-excited to welcome to our humble pages today the musical wunderkind known far and wide as Bored Ape Yacht Club (“BAYC”) #9797 aka “Jimbo”; greetings and salutations BAYC#9797! Before we dive down the proverbial Q&A rabbit hole, how goes the latter-part of 2022 for you?
Its incredible, I’ve been having a blast releasing my music, and creating a whole bunch of content. These next few months are going to be insane!
2.) Congratulations and kudos for the recent release of your highly-anticipated second music video/single for the Pop/Punk magnum opus track Plastic! What was the genesis of this gem of a tune? Is there a VH1-Behind the Music story you could share with our ever-lovin’ readers?
Thank you, releasing this track for me really shows my lifestyle and how I live in the real world and in the metaverse. I am degen, spending money and shopping is all I do, so this song came naturally to me and the team. I was at the studio and the boy Suigeneris pulled up and we went shopping, He spent 3M on clothes that day, then we went back to the studio and made this song.
3.) Who was your producer on Plastic and what did that collaboration between artist and producer look like in the studio?
The song was produced by Dream Addix, the boys are talented, they have some platinum plaques, which I am aiming to get myself one soon!
4.) How is Plastic absolutely different from anything else on the 2022 musical landscape?
All these rappers are afraid to spend money right now with the economy going to the ground, I do not care, I’ll spend until my last cent! Plastic on the other hand combines a new feel and sound that is allowing me to share with my fans a new experience through my visuals and the content around it.
5.) We love the 25 Bored Ape NFT’s which was brilliantly baked into the music video for Plastic! Whose idea was it to go this masterful route?
Themis aka Reit the Director, and one of my new best friends has taken the lead on all creative for Plastic and the next few releases. Was able to bring all my visions to life with out any hassle. We did get some great help getting all the apes together from Bored Jobs.
6.) Speaking of that awesome music video for Plastic, did you have complete creative control on the video?
I do, the creative, and anything I do all and it all happens with my approval, but I believe in my team more than anything else, and my team helps me bring my vision to life. For this video, I actually gave all creative control to Reit, and he delivered a masterpiece.
7.) Another big plaudit for your recent signing with Create Music Group and manager Milo Stokes! What was it about Milo specifically that suggested to you that he and Create Music Group was your only choice as being an integral part of your music career going forward?
I’ll be honest, I had other offers and from bigger labels and managers but those guys will not do for me what Milo and create can do. Create and Milo have been innovators in the music space, and before that, they dominated social media. They understand how to change and how to adapt. With web3 on the rise, these guys are already on the verge of creating new success, and I wanted to be part of that success. The big labels won’t give me the attention that Create is giving me! That is a fact. I am just a young ape on my way up.
8.) On the heels of the release of Plastic, can fans look forward to an LP release from you sometime in 2023?
2023 is going to be full of music, I am actually dropping a single early next month called “Go” We are now finalizing the track and I shoot the video next week. As for 2023 I will release a few more singles and I might drop a small EP.
9.) What does your touring schedule look like now that Plastic is out in the world? Are you pretty booked up in the coming weeks and months?
I’ll be honest, I am busy creating music right now. I am not performing for at least 4-5 months once I have more music out. I want to have more music, to be able to create a nice set.
10.) What do you hope music fans walk away with after giving Plastic a few dozen spins on their respective turntables?
I hope they understand that nothing comes easy, but also money comes and goes. Spend it like there is no tomorrow.
11.) Who inspires you musically?
I get a lot of inspiration from Reo Cragun, Juice Wrld, Eminem, and there are so many to name. I am a sponge that is all I can say.
12.) Any final words to our readers about Plastic?
If you read this interview this far in, why haven’t you went to youtube yet and watched the video?
13.) Final – SILLY! – Question: Favorite movie about the music scene – This Is Spinal Tap, 8 Mile or Almost Famous?
8 Mile without a doubt.
