Step by step guide for the testing
The testing for the fabric requires the 3 main steps which you must follow to carry out results.
- Prepare the fabric
For the test, cut the cloth into pieces that measure 200 mm in length by 200 mm in breadth. For more reliable findings, prepare at least three test specimen fabric samples.
- Fix and hang
Fix the test cloth to the hanger stand using metal clips. Fix the hanger to a stick or rope if the stand is not accessible. Ensure that the fabric sample is placed far from the table.
- Ignite
Usually, two techniques are used to ignite the cloth using a small, precise heat from a light or torch.
Method of Surface Ignition
Apply flame to the fabric’s surface horizontally. Flame duration must be 10 seconds or less.
Vertical Ignition Technique
This technique exerts extra pressure on the stacked vertically materials since flame is focused below the bottom border and spreads to both sides. In this technique, the lighter is positioned at a 30° angle, directly beneath the cloth. Flame duration must be for 10 seconds or less.
