What equipments you need?
You already know that you are going to learn the flammability test then you must require some tools. Because this test can’t be perform without using these tools. The major items you require is the metal clips, metal hanger, metal stand, cigarette lighter and the jet torch lighter. These are some of the essential equipments you need while performing the test.
These tools are easy to find and no effort you have to add for collecting the equipments. Now you must be wondering that why we need them. This is used to hold the fabric for testing. You can fix the cloth by using these tools. But before the test, here you should avoid the flammable products.

- Prepare the fabric
For the test, cut the cloth into pieces that measure 200 mm in length by 200 mm in breadth. For more reliable findings, prepare at least three test specimen fabric samples.
- Fix and hang
Fix the test cloth to the hanger stand using metal clips. Fix the hanger to a stick or rope if the stand is not accessible. Ensure that the fabric sample is placed far from the table.
- Ignite
Usually, two techniques are used to ignite the cloth using a small, precise heat from a light or torch.
Method of Surface Ignition
Apply flame to the fabric’s surface horizontally. Flame duration must be 10 seconds or less.
Vertical Ignition Technique
This technique exerts extra pressure on the stacked vertically materials since flame is focused below the bottom border and spreads to both sides. In this technique, the lighter is positioned at a 30° angle, directly beneath the cloth. Flame duration must be for 10 seconds or less.
- observe and record
At last you have to not the burning time and the after-flame time, after glow time and the hole formation. You should collect all the critical data and then get the results to know how much the fabric is flammable and heat-resistant.
