How to Get Weed in Thailand: A Buyer’s Guide

Now that marijuana is legal in Thailand, the country is being dubbed the Amsterdam of Asia. Not just because weed in now legal there – although that is the main reason – but also because it’s a great vacation spot, good for parties, interesting food, and nice people too.

So, if you’re thinking of taking a trip to Thailand to enjoy some legal weed, here’s what you need to know.

First things first: technically, marijuana is only legal for medicinal purposes in Thailand. However, the law is not being enforced and tourists are openly smoking weed all over the country with no repercussions.

Order Online and Get it Delivered

A lot of tourists especially those coming to relax in places like Phuket, want to smoke in the privacy of their homes. For this reason many online dispensaries now do cannabis deliveries. A drawback to this is that it can be expensive. You’re also taking a risk that the weed you get delivered is not as good as the pictures, or even worse, not even the same strain. If you want to order ganja for delivery, make sure you buy from a trustworthy seller with a good reputation.

Medical Dispensaries

Some of the best place to buy weed in Thailand is from a medical dispensary. These are run by the government or privately (with a license) and are usually very professional. The weed can also be very cheap, but it is often not the best quality stuff if you want to get really high. The downside is that some shops may ask for a Thai ID or passport to buy from them, although many will not.

Smoke Shops

If you don’t have a Thai ID or passport, you can still get weed from some smoke shops. These places are not as professional as the medical dispensaries but they will sell you weed if you ask. The quality of the weed varies and they will typically be more expensive, with some smoke shops being complete scams trying to profit from naive tourists.

Street Sellers

Since laws were changed, you can now purchase weed pretty much anywhere – even off the back of a truck! You may see small stalls or even people selling from their cars as you explore the streets of Phuket, Bangkok, or Chiang Mai. The prices are usually low but so is the quality of the weed. We don’t recommend buying from these sellers, as you never know what you’re getting or if it’s even safe to consume.

Cannabis Social Clubs in Thailand

If you want to meet other people who enjoy smoking weed and socializing, there are cannabis social clubs in Thailand that you can join. These clubs typically have a monthly membership fee, but it’s worth it if you want to make new friends and smoke some good weed while you’re in Thailand.

These clubs typically have their own private rooms where members can go to smoke, as well as a bar and lounge area. Some clubs also have special events, like movie nights or live music.

Smoking in Public Places

Although technically not legal, smoking weed in public places is tolerated in Thailand – similar to how things are with vaping. So feel free to light up a joint while you’re walking down the street or sitting in a park. Just be respectful of other people and don’t smoke near children or in places where smoking is not allowed, like restaurants and bars.

The quality of the weed in Thailand is generally good, but it can vary depending on where you buy it. Street dealers will typically have lower quality weed, but it’s also cheaper. If you’re looking for top-shelf stuff, you’ll want to buy from a reputable medical dispensary or an online seller you trust.

No matter where you buy your weed, make sure you know what strain it is and how strong it is before smoking it. Start with a small amount and see how you feel before smoking more. It’s also a good idea to have some snacks on hand in case you get too high.
