7 FAQs About Kingspan Aircell Insulation Answered

What Is Kingspan Aircell Insulation?

Kingspan is a global market leader with a mission to decrease emissions through innovative insulation products and improving building envelope solutions. The company offers 20 high-performing insulation products, and the Aircell technology is just one of them.

Aircell is a flexible and fibre-free reflective insulation compared to other fibre-based products that are commonly found in Australian buildings. The unique fibre-free material gives different insulation properties and makes it suitable for alternate applications.

What Is Kingspan Aircell Insulation Made Of?

Aircell insulation products are comprised of three parts—a thin layer of polymer, a plain foil, and an antiglare foil.

The layer of polymer is made from a cross-linked and closed-cell core. This layer is sandwiched by the two foils and supports.

How Does Kingspan Aircell Insulation Work?

The Aircell insulation is installed where the antiglare foil faces the warmer side, and the plain foil touches the cooler side.

As a reflective insulation type, the antiglare foil will reflect up to 97 percent of radiant heat away from the surface. About 3 percent of the heat that is not reflected is absorbed, but it is further neutralised by the resistance of the polymer layer, which does not conduct heat well.

This technology keeps you and your home cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter.

Where Can I Use Kingspan Aircell Insulation?

You can use this product on various surfaces, namely:

  • cavity walls
  • ductwork used in building services applications
  • cladding systems that are externally insulated
  • rendering systems that are externally insulated
  • flat roofs
  • floors
  • dry lining that is insulated
  • pitched roofs
  • soffits
  • solid walls
  • tapered roofing systems
  • timber and steel framing

Why Do I Need Kingspan Aircell Insulation?

Consider these key benefits when you have one:

Trustworthy Material

Besides the thermal regulation properties that this insulator provides, it is made of technology that offers more. Aircell insulation is also:

  • sustainable;
  • strong and durable enough to last a long time;
  • equipped with anti-tear qualities; and
  • hail resistant.

Excellent Home Health

It offers your home a healthy and livable environment because it:

  • does not allow for bacterial growth;
  • does not allow for mould growth; and
  • does not attract vermin, such as insects and rats, to your home.

A Healthy Family

Since Aircell insulation is a fibre-less product, it does not release any particles that can be potentially harmful to you and your family’s health. It will not cause any allergic reactions, irritation, or asthma.

No Money Wasted

Keeping in mind all of the benefits mentioned above, Kingspan Aircell insulation does not allow you to spend more than necessary on installation costs. It is easy and quick to install, and as a result, you are saving your time and your labour costs significantly.

Having insulation regulates your home’s temperature. Therefore, it does not overwork your heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) system, and consequently, you do not have to pay a hefty sum for your energy bill.

This insulation also provides more safety for you and your family’s health and would not cost you medical bills either!

Home Improvement Project: What Are My Kingspan Aircell Insulation Options?

The Aircell brand offers you 21 different products, but here are the 4 most common options you can choose from.

Aircell Insulbreak

Insulbreak offers a 3-in-1 solution: insulation, vapour barrier, and thermal barrier. This type is best applied on walls and roofs.

ProductThickness (mm)R-Value at 23°C (m2.K/W)
Insulbreak 555.5R0.15
Insulbreak 707.2R0.20
Insulbreak 909.0R0.25

We recommend this product or steel frame constructions. However, it can also be used for non-steel framed constructions such as timber-framed roofs.

Aircell Glareshield

Glareshield offers a 3-in-1 solution: insulation, vapour barrier, and thermal barrier. We recommend this product for roof applications.

Aircell Permifloor

Permifloor offers a 2-in-1 solution: insulation and moisture management. As the name suggests, this product is designed for insulating floors.

ProductThickness (mm)R-Value at 23°C (m2.K/W)
Permifloor4R0.11

Permishield

Permishield offers a 3-in-1 solution: insulation, vapour-permeable sarking and thermal break. This product is designed to be used for steel-framed walls and behind lightweight clad wall materials.

The vapour-permeable sarking is a waterproof membrane that captures any water that may seep in, but it allows the vapour to pass through. Then, it directs the water or moisture away from your home’s structure.
