Emily Blunt Talks Up Her New Amazon Prime Western Series “The English”

Chances are that when you think of Emily Blunt it’s for her wide range of eclectic roles in such films as A Quiet Place (which she made with her husband of over a decade, John Krasinski), The Devil Wears Prada, Mary Poppins Returns or The Girl on the Train. Her filmography is tidy and seems to represent a thespian following a particular career road map, with her choices of roles neither boring or particularly exciting. However, if you study that same list of productions associated with her, you’ll begin to see some delightfully oddball choices which definitely don’t jibe with a prim and proper Merchant Ivory lass: Last summer’s Jungle Cruise was a trifle which also happened to find a big and receptive audience and seemed to prove to the world that Blunt was an actress willing to take chances, silly as those chances might sometimes seem. With that salient observation out of the way, it might not come as too much of a surprise to discover that not only is Emily Blunt set to star in her very own series, but that said series is, of all things, a Western.  According to those wags over in the green fields of The Hollywood Reporter, Emily Blunt will be twirling a mean six-shooter in the upcoming Amazon Prime Western series The English.

The English is about an English woman called Cornelia Locke who makes her way to late 1800s America with one goal in mind: To enact a plan of revenge for her fallen son. To put it in Blunt’s own words, the series is really all about “a heart-stopping chase thriller with the most tender of love stories at its heart.”

The English was actually shot in Madrid which is doubling for the American West of the late 1800s in the show. Blunt will be serving double-duty as not only the star, but also as an executive producer; eat your heart out, John Krasinski! Starring alongside of the actress will be acclaimed actor Chaske Spencer.

In touting The English during a press junket for the series, Blunt said that she“opened the script and couldn’t stop. It was heart-stopping and gripping, and startlingly beautiful, so I knew I was in immediately. When it came to just being a part of it in all its entirety, it just seemed to make sense for this project. I loved standing shoulder to shoulder with Hugo and Greg on it along the way, and I think I’ve probably been around the block enough to not just be interested in the acting part of it, I’m interested in all of it.”

Emily Blunt will delight and surprise viewers when The English premieres worldwide this November 11 on Amazon Prime!
