Tel-Aviv based duo Bill & Murray released their latest track “Rolling Stone.” The songwriters David Blau and Stella Gotshtein confessed in a recent interview that the main inspiration for the single came from listening to a lot of Nirvana, particularly the song “Breed,” which conveys feelings of indifference and carelessness.
“Rolling Stone” is “…about finding it hard to find a center of gravity, a way to self-define yourself, to truly care about something and know who you are and what you stand for. When you feel like you could or should be somebody else every day,” explains the duo. Introducing a new sound that is different from their usual ‘80s synth pop style, Bill & Murray are ready to explore different genres using new and old instruments that include drum machines, guitars, banjos, and pianos.
Performing all over North America, Europe, and the Middle East, Blau and Gotshtein have had the chance to be the opening act for the legendary Gary Numan. The two share their excitement and give details of their touring experience with the English musician, “He was so sweet and humble. We got to talking and it was funny to us that he talked to us as if we were at his level of recognition, asking us for tips regarding touring eastern Europe and stuff like that. We’re sure it was just him being super nice and making conversation, still the whole situation was cool and a bit surrealistic for us seeing how we are such huge Gary Numan fans.”
In addition to Gary Numan, Bill & Murray is influenced by celebrated artists such as The Cure, The Stone Roses, and Joy Division. Their debut album A New Kind of High, which was released in 2015 was a techno-pop record that included hits like “Rabbit Hole” and “The Silence Grows.”
With the release of the brand new single, Blau and Gotshtein plan to further expand their horizons; and what better way to start this journey than with “Rolling Stone,” which is a beautiful musical interpretation that combines melodic synths with self pondering lyrics, “I don’t make a fuss/ I don’t care much about much/ cuz baby, I’m just a rolling stone.”
