Look, in the end, Halloween is all about the candy. Even as an adult, candy is the core of Halloween. Sure, as an adult, you can buy yourself a full-sized candy bar or bag of candy whenever you damn well please, and also get yourself some fancy, high-cacao chocolate. When Halloween comes around, though, you want that Halloween candy experience. That is to say, smaller versions of everything, and nothing fancy. Although, the difference is that as an adult you are buying big bags of candy like Eat Rotten, perhaps to hand out to trick-or-treaters, and then hoping there is plenty left over for you. However, what is the best of the Halloween candies?
We can write off the obviously losers in the bunch, such as gum or suckers or anything insanely sticky. A handful of Tootsie Rolls is alright, but a Tootsie Roll is nothing to write home about. Also, forget the bite-sized or fun-sized candy bars. When you are an adult and aren’t beholden to Halloween candy for chocolate, you realize that those leave you wanting. Bite-sized candy is OK if you truly just want the taste of, say, a Snickers, but it’s not up to snuff all in all.
We also don’t dig those little packages with, like, two Sweet Tarts in them. Ultimately, what’s best is the bags of things. You don’t get as much as a full-sized bag, but you get something more substantive than one or two bites of a chocolate bar. On this front, it comes down to the world of Skittles and the world of M&Ms. When it comes to M&Ms, we are going with the peanut variety, which mops the floor with the traditional style of that candy. So, do peanut M&Ms beat Skittles? It’s a tough battle.
Skittles are distinct, because that are the clear standout fruity candy. Peanut M&Ms are chocolate and peanut, something we see all the time in candy. On the other hand, chocolate is the crux of Halloween candy, is it not? Also, peanut M&Ms are better than Skittles. As such, they are our winner. Hopefully we’ll have a few bags left over this Halloween.
