Bret Koontz & Truancy Club Share “Gloaming, Nightshade”Single + Video

Bret Koontz & Truancy Club (ft. members of FranFamous Laughs) recently announced a brand new LP, A Sparkle Road Cult, out November 18 via Earth Libraries.

Today, the band shares their forthcoming record’s second single, “Gloaming, Nightshade,” along with an accompanying music video described via the following synopsis:

“This music video for ‘Gloaming, Nightshade’ explores a day in the life of a metaphysical grief counselor (Ariel Mejia) and her chauffeur (Zach Hebert) as they help clients deal with loss through unorthodox methods.”

The sound at the center of A Sparkle Road Cult is Bret’s voice. It’s an idiosyncratic writer and composer’s voice that has shades of the outsider sounds of Robert Wyatt, Syd Barrett, and Arthur Russell. The accompanying arrangements bring to mind the songcraft of the Carpenters and Prefab Sprout-esque Sophisti-Pop shaken up/down by a touch of the large format boogie of Wings and raw Power Pop of Big Star.

The forthcoming LP will be printed as an Art Book Album + CD, which is available to pre-order via Earth Libraries now.
