VENTS recently had the pleasure of interviewing dance music legend Jason Walker about his new music video “Dance A Little” (Georgie’s House Is A Feeling Mix). Read that interview below.

How have your Pittsburgh roots shaped and influenced your music?
I don’t think that Pittsburgh necessarily influenced my music.
I discovered what I consider to be music that changed my life only when I left Pittsburgh – and this was before I uprooted to NYC.
When I’d travel to Miami or LA – the music that I discovered being played in those cities is what truly influenced me.
When did your love and gravitation toward music start?
I started singing when I was 4 or 5 years old.
Music was like a black hole–it just enveloped every piece of me.
As far back as I can remember, there was music all around me.
Who are some of your top musical idols?
I’d say: Kristine W, Prince, Chaka Khan, and Madonna
How does your sound pull from them while differing to be something uniquely your own?
Well, I think that we are products of our upbringing. I grew up with this insatiable appetite for music and I gravitated towards certain styles. I studied them and as I grew developed “my sound” – an amalgamation of everything that I instinctively gravitated towards and everything that I listened to.
How does it feel to reflect on your growth as an artist considering your great successes with five number 1 charting Billboard singles under your belt to date?
LOL
I have never reflected. I wish that I could……I feel like I’m too driven and that doesn’t allow me to reflect. It’s about what’s next. It always has been.
What ignited your creative spark to write and produce “Dance A Little”?
Well, we wanted to create something that when people listened to or watched, they could forget the world, forget the past 2 1/2 years….at least for a few minutes. We wanted to create something, both sonically and visually, that was happy, something that was bright – something that would make people want to dance….a little
What inspired you, and how do you personally connect with this song?
I’d say conversations with Georgie….they lead me in a direction. I remember being on the phone with him listening to the track and throwing ideas around, and the chorus just came out – he liked it and we went from there.
What was it like collaborating with Georgie Porgie on this track?
Listen – I’ve been in a lot of situations with respect to musical partnerships and label situations – no one has ever taken care of me and respected me like Georgie. No one!
It’s easy with him – he understands me and gets me, which is all that I could ask for.
Georgie is a legend; there isn’t anyone in the dance world that doesn’t know and respect Georgie.
I’m very fortunate.
It really is all about making good music.
How and when did the two of you connect and decide to work together on “Dance A Little”?
Well…..there are a few layers to this answer.
I knew Georgie – professionally, like I said, who doesn’t.
I didn’t know him personally.
While at ADE in 2019, we saw each other at a party – I think it was the Beatport Party–but I’m not certain.
We were chatting, and I had some music that I was working on and I asked him if he’d listen – and maybe we could work together.
Not knowing what to expect post-ADE, we spoke and those conversations lead to a deal with his label, Music Plant.
How does the music video for “Dance A Little” bring your vision for the song to life?
I think the better question is, “How doesn’t it?” LOL
Karl Giant did a brilliant job of creating exactly what Georgie had in mind.
Colors, fashion, sunshine, blue skies, PINK, PINK, PINK—if that doesn’t make you wanna shake a leg—I don’t know what will!
How does it visually embody the energy and theme of this club/party hit?
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSILOVEYOUSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
