Before you contact the IRS before you call the IRS, breathe deeply with me.
It is important to remember that there are incredible people employed for the IRS. These people have homes and families as do the rest of us. They have to pay taxes and to adhere to the same laws as we do.

When to make a call
The IRS is open between 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. Monday through Friday. The best time to contact them is before dawn.
Make sure you’re ready
Before calling, be sure that you have the necessary information.
- Birth dates and Social Security numbers for those when you were preparing the return that you’re calling about.
- A Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN) letter to notify you that you do not have an Social Security number (SSN)
- Filing status: Single Head of Household, Single Married Filing Joint, or Married Filing Separate

- A photocopy from the return that you’re trying to reach out to

- The IRS phone number is 1-800-829-1040..
- The first question that the computer system is going to ask to select the language you prefer.
- After you’ve chosen your language, DO not select Option 1 (regarding information about refunds). Select option 2, which is “Personal income tax” instead.
- Then, press 1 to get “form and tax history and/or payment”.
- Then Press 3 “for any autres questions.”
- Then hit 2 “for any additional questions.”
- If the system asks for the details of your SSN or EIN in order to access your account details Do not input any information.
- If it prompts you twice and you are prompted by a different menu.
- Press 2 to answer personal tax or individual tax inquiries.
- Press 4 for any other questions. The system will then forward you to an agent.
