Who Is The Most Distinct Character On ‘The Simpsons’?

We surmised who is the most-distinct character on The Office. If you didn’t check that out, most-distinct is the character that stands out the most from the show. Not the best character, not the funniest character, but the one that feels the most different in the ensemble. The Office was a good jumping-off point for that, but now we really challenge ourselves. Let’s go to Springfield. Who is the most-distinct character on The Simpsons? This is, of course, for regular characters on the show. Nobody who is one off or only shows up a few times.

Any dumb character isn’t going to be able to make the cut, be it Homer or Barney or Ralph. The thing is, characters defined by intelligence aren’t too distinct, either. So there goes Lisa or Professor Frink. What about Principal Skinner? He’s a put-upon sort, and the show has a few of those, such as Milhouse and his father Kirk Van Houten.

What about Mr. Burns? He’s evil, and he’s rich. Nobody else in town is really all that rich. However, the jokes about him being old have him in line with Abe or Jasper. Chalmers is the straight man, and Springfield doesn’t have many of them. On the other hand, he’s a jaded educational professional, like Krabappel and Hoover.

Marge is interestingly a possibility. Ultimately, though, two characters came to mind. They are Ned Flanders and Waylon Smithers. Springfield has an awful lot of churchgoers, but Ned is devoutly religious. Even Reverend Lovejoy doesn’t seem terribly religious. Ned is also friendly and giving, which is not common in town. He’s friends with Homer without being a drinking buddy. He’s also had multiple marriages, and is a two-time widower.

This isn’t about Smithers being gay. As time as gone on, characters of that ilk have become more common. Smithers is smart, but not a genius. He’s capable at his job. He also really cares about his job, which is not a thing that happens a ton in Springfield. Smithers also likes Mr. Burns. In fact, he used to be in love with Mr. Burns. That is definitely rare.

Smithers or Flanders? Flanders or Smithers? In the end, we go with the man with the mustache. Ol’ Steady Needy is the most-distinct character on The Simpsons.
