Original “Halloween” Set for Big Screen Rerelease Ahead of “Halloween Ends”

“I watched him for fifteen years, sitting in a room, staring at a wall; not seeing the wall, looking past the wall; looking at this night, inhumanly patient, waiting for some secret, silent alarm to trigger him off…”

On the eve of the fine folks at Blumhouse, Miramax and Universal unleasing the presumably final installment in the Halloween franchise – Halloween Ends – the benevolent souls over at CineLife Entertainment, Compass International Pictures and Trancas International Films have a treat for all of us with their newly announced theatrical rerelease of the movie that started the whole franchise, John Carpenter’s 1978 masterpiece Halloween.

For those woefully out of the horror movie loop, Carpenter and co-writer Debra Hill’s Halloween  followed the trail of terror of escaped killer Michael Myers over the course of one very long Halloween night. With his sights set on a trio of teenaged babysitters, Myers goes about the creepy business of stalking his prey, even as his determined doctor remains hot on his heels, determined to put an end to his bloody night of trick ‘r’ treating. If that sounds predictible, it’s simply because no mere words can perfectly encapsulate the atmospheric and nearly bloodless experience which is this modern day horror masterpiece. Say what you will about the various and sundry sequels; the original Halloween was and remains an example of everything the genre of horror can be if done rightly.

This will mark the second year in a row that CineLife, Compass and Trancas have released the original Halloween into movie houses and this sophomore effort will begin hitting movie screens later this month, according to our “Yo Mike, Come and see me” pals over at The Hollywood Reporter.

“We are ecstatic to once again showcase the legendary Halloween franchise in theaters and continue our strong partnership with Trancas International Films and Compass International Pictures,” enthused Bernadette McCabe, Big Wheel at CineLife Entertainment. “Halloween fans nationwide showed their unwavering appreciation for the iconic series over the years, and we are overjoyed to have the opportunity to bring back such a well-received tradition.”

Along with the 1978 film, this intrepid band of gremlins will also be rereleasing the fourth and fifth films in the Halloween franchise (The Return of Michael Myers and The Revenge of Michael Myers respectively). In total, over 670 showings parceled out on 417 theater screens will be welcoming back The Shape, Laurie Strode, Dr. Loomis this September!

Trick ‘r’ treat all of you ghouls and ghoulies!
