The pandemic changed a lot of things and it for sure changed the way how people perceive fitness. Pre-pandemic, the concept of working out at home wasn’t popular due to the preset notion that you will have to join the gym to become fit. Post-pandemic, with improvements and various models built, working out from home became more prevalent.
Working out from home means a lot of things and it is natural for you to be confused about what you should be doing to work out effectively. That is why we bring to you a concise list of effective things that you can do to work out effectively from home. The list is the cumulative effort of Nita, the founder of FitwithNit who has been working in the fitness industry for over five years now and has helped transform hundreds of clients to date.
Nita says, “I have seen a lot of people who are motivated to start their fitness journey, but they end up not doing it. The part reason is they lack preparation and the goal that they set breaks at the first sight of adversity.”
She adds, “Like anything that you do in life, it is important that you prepare your mind for it. if your mind is not where you put the effort, it is not going to work.”
So, here are some things that Nita suggests that you can implement to help you seize your fitness goals and ensure you are in the best shape of your life.
- Prepare the night before:
The majority of people don’t work out because, one they don’t have a workout plan, and two they just are confused about what needs to be done so there is no motivation to do the workout, especially when they are at home. Nita says “Prepare a list of exercises that you are going to be doing beforehand. This helps in conditioning your mind on what needs to be done tomorrow ensuring you are aware of what needs to be done when you think about working out”.
2. Invest In Equipment that is needed:
Nita mentions that when you have decided to workout from home, you will have to be very sure about what is required and what is not. You do not have to invest in big pieces of equipment when you are starting. Start by investing in a skipping rope and some resistance bands which will help you with your home workouts. Once you can consistently adapt to your routine, start investing in other equipment based on your needs and requirements and never buy everything at once and stock it for better days.
3. Get an accountability partner:
Getting a partner to work out with you is tough when you are doing it at home but the concept applies everywhere. When you have someone who will hold you accountable, you will automatically start working out consistently. If you are not able to find someone like that, joining courses and training programs like the ones that are offered with FitwithNit will help you with just that.
4. Warm-Ups, Cool-Downs, and Mix-Ups:
It is important to know that when you start working out, warming up before a workout and cooling down after a workout is important. This will ensure that your body is well-conditioned to start and end a workout. Many people will probably skip it and proceed to the workout which can seem ok at first, but slowly will start inducing complications. It is also recommended to switch up your workout routines to different formats now and then to keep your workouts interesting. Some formats that you can try include, High-Intensity Interval Training, Low-Intensity Training, Yoga, Zumba, and much more based on your liking and comfort.
5. Consistency is Key:
No matter where you work out, it is important that you are consistent with it. It is normal to not be able to work out at your best, but the idea is not being your best at your workouts but just showing up. This makes a great deal when you are starting out and once you have done this for quite some time, it becomes a part of your life.
