After Over Three Decades, Chevy Chase and Dan Aykroyd Reunite for New Film

If you grew up a stone’s throw away from the 1970s and 1980s and counted yourself even remotely an admirer of comedy, then no doubt the onscreen antics of funny men Chevy Chase and Dan Aykroyd were part and parcel of your pop culture DNA. Individually these two comedians all but owned the local mall movie theaters with such respective celluloid gold as Caddyshack, The Blues Brothers, National Lampoon’s Vacation, Ghostbusters and Funny Farm. A tour de force when left to their own devices, when this modern-era Hope and Crosby combined forces to work together on television and in the movies, they were nigh unstoppable, true comedic gods for an entire generation. Their efforts on Saturday Night Live propelled them into a trio of films which, though hit or miss, begat at least a few belly chuckles and fond memories: Spies Like Us, Caddyshack II and – their swan song – Nothing But Trouble are, if not outright comedy gold, at least a good way to pass a long weekend if you’re in the mood for a little irreverent fun.

Our Memoirs of An Invisible Man fanatics over at The Hollywood Reporter announced this morning that the combined comedic might of two titans – Dan Aykroyd and Chevy Chase – are set for a big screen reunion with the upcoming movie Zombie Town.

Zombie Town is being touted as a “mystery teen romancer” which is based off of the popular book of the same name by that Master of the Macabre (junior version) R. L. Stine and directed by Peter Lepeniotis. In the story, two 12-year old pals take to their local movie house to watch a horror flick called – you guessed it – Zombie Town. During the showing, the two towheaded kids are shocked when the ooey-gooey zombies of the film literally leap off of the screen and begin chasing them throughout the theater. Don’t you just hate it when that happens?

In a press release announcing the new movie and the reunion of Chase and Aykroyd – their first onscreen collaboration since 1991’s Nothing But Trouble – Executive Producer John Gillespie said that “We are delighted to bring the pages of R.L. Stine’s Zombie Town to the screen and equally thrilled to be working with such an exceptional cast and crew on this production. A three-time Nickelodeon Kids Choice Award winner with book sales of over $500 million, R.L. Stine has a phenomenal track record of crafting stories that engage and entertain audiences.”

No precise word on which roles Chase and Aykroyd will tackle in this, but our money is on the duo taking a page from Bill Murray’s turn in Zombieland and going full-on Walking Dead; fun!

Zombie Town is currently shooting in Ontario and is eyeing a 2023 theatrical release.
