These days planning a hen weekend can be hugely challenging and sometimes you just want a plan laid out. With a hen do it’s not just a case of organising a night out with the girls these days. Indeed a hen night can now be stretched way beyond the traditional one night on the town. Believe it or not hen weeks are not entirely unheard of these days!
So you’ve chosen your destination. Cardiff is an excellent choice. Not only is it easy to get to, with lots of accommodation, it’s also brimming with bars and culture. There are also lots of activities too in and around the city.
So sit back and relax and read our template guide for you perfect Cardiff hen weekend.
Friday night
Depending on how far your party has travelled then Friday night is probably just going to be a few drinks in one of Cardiff’s busy pub and restaurant areas.
So after you’ve all gathered in your hotel bar then we suggest heading out towards St Mary’s Street where there are lots of pubs and bars to suite all tastes. It’s one of the busiest areas in the city centre, with over 40 bars, and will be a great place to start your weekend.
We suggest a few classy cocktails in the Peppermint Bar. If the girls are keen for a late one then perhaps finish up and make some moves at the Missoula nightclub.
Saturday daytime
How about doing something a bit different that will help blow the cobwebs off after a late Friday night? We suggest heading a little way out of the city and taking part in your very own Welsh Games. These guys will have your party competing in nine crazy games that will provide some solid memories and great images of your hen weekend. The idea is a little like the classic ‘It’s a Knockout’ BBC TV program from the 1980s.
Welsh Games runs during the warmer months and specialise in organising events for hen as well as stag weekends, so you might be sharing your time with the boys too! Perfect for a hen party in Cardiff, the games takes around 2 hours maximum so you’ll have plenty of time to get back to your hotel and prepare for a big Saturday night out on the town!
And if you find yourself at a Bristol hen weekend, be sure to check out their sister activity West Country Games. This one is just like Welsh Games, but with a West Country twist. Ooh arr!
Saturday night
Cardiff has so many different areas for wining and dining that we suggest going somewhere a bit different and away from the madness of St Mary’s Street.
First up you’ll want to organise a nice meal out in one of Cardiff’s nicer restaurants. We suggest heading for an Italian as you cannot really go wrong with pizza and pasta before a big night!
Carluccios in Cardiff’s Mill Street area has a great reputation and will take large group bookings. If you fancy going somewhere a little different then the French restaurant Le Monde also caters for large groups and specialises in steak and seafood.
After dinner we suggest heading over to the Cardiff Bay area for somewhere a little different. The waterfront area is a new kid on the block when it comes to Cardiff’s established night life areas and has a selection of slightly less rowdy pubs and wine bars. We suggest having a drink in the Terra Nova and perhaps then heading to Salt which is a popular wine bar and gastro pub rolled into one.
After a few glasses of wine then why not head away from Cardiff Bay and back over to the St Mary Street area, assuming the bride to be still has the wind in her sails!
Sunday day
You and the girls might be feeling a little worse for wear after two action packed days in the Welsh capital so we advise taking it easy with a little pampering.
We are going to suggest a Spa day for the girls and Laguna Health & Spa is an excellent choice based in the centre of town. Their Spa Day packages start from just £29.95 with the possibility of group discounts too. Your day will start at 10am so enough time to get some breakfast after a late one the night before.
If you miss breakfast then fear not as the Spa package includes lunch. They have a number of treatments on offer as well access to a 20m pool and steam room.
The facilities are quite luxurious and will be the perfect send off for the hen after a truly action packed Cardiff weekend!
