Taavi Tuuisk has been a DJ for more than half of his life and played all over the world – Spain, UK, Germany, Brazil, South Africa, USA etc. Performing at superclubs like Ministry Of Sound, Pacha and Space but also at small cozy underground venues in South Africa. He’s also founder of two open air summer clubs in Tallinn. This month the Estonian house DJ and producer drops a two tracker for Steve Bug’s irrepressible Poker Flat Recordings.
We’re happy to be spending some time today with acclaimed producer and DJ Taavi Tuisk; greetings and salutations, Taavi! Before we dive into the deep-waters of Q&A, how has 2022 been treating you?
Hello and thanks for having me on your page. 2022 has been super gentle for me. During covid time and lockdown I had no choice but make a lot of music and now all those tracks are getting released on such cool labels. I haven’t had such productive time and intense release schedule before.
Kudos and congrats on your new single Incroyable which is set to officially premiere on August 19! What was the genesis of this remarkable tune? How did it come into being?
I created the main theme years ago using Synthström (great gear maker from New Zealand) Deluge groovebox. Started to play it out as my opening track of my live set and used an unknown French acapella on top of it. It worked well so decided to make real track out of it. Replaced vocals and voila!
Early word of mouth has been extremely positive on Incroyable. Have you been surprised by how ready people seem to be for this brilliant piece of new music?
Glad to hear such positive response. It is probably because of those sexy French vocals right!?
Incroyable is being released courtesy of the Poker Flat label. What makes Poker flat the perfect home for you and your music?
For me Poker Flat has been always one of “the labels” so I’m extremely happy to have my record released by such respected organisation. I guess Poker Flat do not chase tracks that necessarily follow latest trends and all that. It releases timeless music that can be played not only on a release week but years and years after.
Acting as the de facto “B-side” for Incroyable is a smashing remix from Mihai Popoviciu. How did this remix come about?
It was Poker Flat’s suggestion to have one more remix on board. I’m familiar with Mihai’s music, have played his production in my dj sets so I was super happy when I heard the news.
How does Incroyable differ from some of your other musical efforts? How is it similar?
I think it’s the first track where most of the tracks coming from hardware. Normally I use software/hardware combo. And also sound wise it’s a bit different beast. I kept it simple and didn’t use any ethnic elements or rich percussion lines, didn’t go to the direction I normally go.

Lyrics part is made and recorded by MatG.
With the release of the new single, could a full-length album be very far behind?
Well. There are 4-5 track ideas that I might save for the future album. It’s one of the main future goals for sure but I think it’s not that time yet. I want to put out more singles/remixes before I start considering it.
Can fans look forward to seeing you out on the road in the coming weeks and months to promote Incroyable?
In June we opened a new summer venue so I have been extremely busy getting it up and running. Luckily it works quite well already. Few more weeks until closing party so I really hope I can start gigging again. I miss it.
What do you hope that fans of your music walk away with after listening to Incroyable?
I hope they Shazam it, find out what it is and spread the word.
Along with being a top-notch musician, you are also an acclaimed DJ. Can you talk with us about this particular passion and how you landed on the DJ scene in the first place?
That started ages ago and has been part of my life more than 20 years already. It was a pure “joy” to carry those vinyl boxes around 😉 I think the story behind it is quite similar to many fellow dj-s. You just start to collect music and all of a sudden you’re playing tracks in front of the others. They love it, you get more gigs and step by step you get to the pro level. Dream job!
Musically, who turns you on right now?
Let me see. I downloaded ALL three tracks of Acitone’s new EP on Rhythm Cult. Buying all tracks of the release is quite rare these days, at least for me.
Final – SILLY! – Question: Where and when were you most happy?
You can be happy anywhere, it’s a matter of surroundings. Home, studio, synth store, music venues…ok, there you had few favourites in random order. Can’t be too happy in early mornings though, big smile comes at night!
