For many working women, every day starts with a morning rush and a stressful commute to work. Then you get greeted with a bunch of work and meetings and end the day with some errands on the way back. While women usually do a great job juggling different roles and tasks, it’s hard to find time to dedicate to healthy eating. So if you want to pay more attention to your diet, here are a few tips you can follow as a busy working woman:
Rely on fruits
When you’re hungry yet busy, what do you usually do? Grab a quick snack from the vending machine? If that’s the case on most occasions, you’re not using the full potential of fruits. Fruits are just as filling as chips or chocolate bars, yet have a lot more nutritional value and fewer calories. Plus, the natural sugars will refuel your depleted energy levels. Also, fruits are easy to eat, so even if you’re very busy, you can find time to eat them. Pack a few pieces of fruits into your bag and you’ll always have a healthy snack available.
Try smoothies instead of skipping breakfast
If you don’t want to skip breakfast, and you definitely shouldn’t, smoothies are a great way to fit an entire meal into one easy-to-prepare drink. You just need to grab some fruits and veggies, dump them in your blender, add some optional ingredients like yogurt and milk and blend until smooth. Drink your morning vitamin and mineral supplements with your smoothie to provide you with extra energy. These dietary supplements are designed to keep your immune system up, protect your heart and feed your muscles. And there you have it, a healthy, fast and nutritional morning routine!
Plan ahead
Don’t fail to plan, otherwise, you’re planning to fail—this saying is absolutely true when it comes to healthy eating and dieting. If you don’t plan in advance, you’ll most likely reach for unhealthy options. The best way to create a good eating plan is to make a list of things you want to eat the following day and prepare what you can in advance. There are great recipes that allow you to reduce sugar and gluten intake and improve your fitness and health. You can even input the ingredients you have at home and get a recipe that fits your dietary needs. Some might think “There’s no way I have time for that” but the reality is that prepping healthy snacks and lunch takes between 10 and 60 minutes you always have in the evening.
Carry a bag of nuts wherever you go
Besides fruit, nuts are another great food that you can reach for instead of all those unhealthy junk snacks. Nuts are rich in vitamins and minerals, as well as a healthy amount of fat and protein. This means you’ll feel full yet properly energized. According to experts, almonds and walnuts are the healthiest nuts to snack on. Plus, nuts are very easy to carry—just get a small bag with a mix of nuts, place it in your bag or car and grab a handful when you need a quick snack.
Give up branded coffee
Drinking coffee has many benefits: It may help protect against type 2 diabetes, Parkinson’s disease, liver cancer and even protect you against heart failure, but did you know that many drinks on the Starbucks menu exceed the 300 calorie mark? Grabbing branded coffee on your way to work or errands might not seem horrible, but this habit can add thousands of calories to your calorie goals. So instead of wasting money on Starbie, buy a travel mug and prepare a drink at home. This way you’ll have access to your favorite coffee or tea drink without extra calories and expenses.
Shop for groceries after lunch
When you do your weekly or daily shopping, make sure not to do it on empty stomach. When you’re hungry, you’re more likely to be drawn towards junk food instead of healthy options, and you don’t want to have any calorie-rich foods at home. Before you do your shopping, eat something and bring your water bottle to stay hydrated while wandering the crowded grocery store.
As you can see, these healthy diet tips can be followed even by the busiest of women. Once these tricks become your new routine, you’ll not only look healthier and better but feel like a superwoman!
