Arthritis is a joint disorder that can cause a lot of distress in your life. Although the symptoms of arthritis are different for everyone, mentioned below are a few common symptoms of arthritis:
- Swelling or inflammation of joints
- Redness or rashes around the affected joint
- Persistent joint pain and stiffness
- Lack of mobility or flexibility
In case any of the symptoms above are present, chances are you may have arthritis.
Kinds of Arthritis
While it may surprise you, arthritis has many types. Not many are as common as others, so here I have two of the most common types of arthritis. They are:
Osteoarthritis
The first one is osteoarthritis, also called degenerative arthritis. In osteoarthritis, the cartilage in your joints breaks down. Either it breaks down completely, or there’s a tear in it somewhere. It can affect one or more joints at the same time. Experts believe that it’s among the most common problems in the US.
Rheumatoid Arthritis
Rheumatoid arthritis is another common type of arthritis. It’s an autoimmune disorder in which your body starts attacking its own joints and ligaments. As a result, it causes severe, persistent joint pain that barely improves with allopathic painkillers.
Treatment Options for Arthritis
Just like the symptoms of arthritis, the treatment also varies from person to person. It also depends on the type of arthritis you have; however, certain things can help improve pain and mobility. As you know, having allopathic painkillers is not a solution.
Thus, I always recommend following natural remedies instead. The following are a few ways you can tame the symptoms of arthritis naturally:
Herbs and Plants
Unlike allopathic medicines, herbs and plants have no side effects. As they’re all-natural, they’re safe to be consumed on a daily basis. The great thing is that many herbs and plants are more effective than allopathic medicines as they work by eliminating pain from its root cause. A few such herbs and plants include:
- Rosemary
- Valerian root
- Purple cookies strain
- Turmeric
- St. John’s-wort
You can use all these herbs and plants in plenty of ways. Either you can consume them orally or apply them on the affected joint topically, whatever suits you better.
Exercise or Yoga
A lazy lifestyle with little to no physical activity can contribute to your joint pain, aggravating the condition. As you know, lack of mobility is one of the symptoms of arthritis. If you continue with your lazy lifestyle, things will take a turn for the worse.
Therefore, I suggest you exercise every day or perform yoga. By exercise, we don’t mean hardcore exercises. A few minutes of walk around the house will suffice or you can perform a few yoga poses, inhale, and exhale. The idea is to get moving.
Weight Reduction
Last but not least, you need to shed a few pounds. While you may not like it, losing weight is a must if you have arthritis. In fact, weight management is the key to managing the symptoms of arthritis.
When you gain weight, it puts more pressure on your knees, ankles, and other joints in your body. Such things can negatively add to arthritis, making things worse for you. Thus, weight reduction is crucial. It can decrease joint pain and simultaneously improve flexibility.
Though arthritis is a lifelong disease, its symptoms can be managed with the right treatment. Hence, there’s nothing to worry about. Just be sure to get it diagnosed as soon as possible and start making some necessary lifestyle changes. Here’s wishing you good luck!
