Tips to Boost Your Immunity this Summer

When the weather’s all blue skies, our health tends to also have an equally sunny disposition. Then immunity and behaviours flake a little as the season changes for the winter months. In these moments there’s a craving for chicken soup, and cold and flu remedies. Here are some tips to give your immunity a boost…

Tan line woes or the war against allergens

Should there be an investment in building immunity in the summer months? After all, gut health is widely promoted as the utmost importance any time of the year. Immunity supports the body’s defences against many illnesses – targeting the biology and physiology of the human body.

It may not be colds, flu or other typical wintery illnesses that plague us in the warmer months but there’s a bigger issue we have in the summer – and that’s the high levels of allergens and the effect that they have on many sufferers.

Nature is the cause of this problem, but could nature be the answer to our prayers too? Could the earth’s bountiful supplies be the cure that our bodies need?

Come land, come seaweed

As the temperature rises, so does the pollen count – and then there’s just nothing more to do than take antihistamines. Or is there?

Nature’s not just the fauna and flora, what about the benefits of our oceans and seas? Look at sea moss for the health benefits of seaweed. Building up defences against threats, making sure that the body has its optimum supply of vitamin and essential minerals. And it doesn’t stop here.

Holistically fruity goings on

Many a cure – established or new – for cultures all over the world has been the power of citrus fruits. They’ve always had the reputation to support a good healthy lifestyle.

They’re on the hit list of good foods to boost summer activities – when you want all the energy you can possibly muster.

Why? Because citrus fruits are full of vitamins, essential to promoting good health. Your five a day will be no challenge when they’re all from the citrus genus.

However, do be aware that grapefruit isn’t recommended if you’re taking antihistamines.

Getting to the root of the problem

Garlic – a superfood before superfoods were a thing – has always been thought of as a good food that keeps heart attacks at bay, and the odd vampire.

Ginger is also a great flavour giver – and has been used for medicinal purposes for centuries because of its presence of Gingerol. Add fresh ginger to a cup of hot water and you have the perfect immunity booster.

Then there’s also turmeric which contains curcumin – a compound known to have anti-inflammatory properties that help boost immunity.

Good bacteria = good health

As mentioned, good gut health is the way forward…products containing good bacteria will always support a healthy system. Yogurt is one of them – made from milk that has been fermented by probiotics. There are non-dairy versions too.

Sunglasses, suntan lotion, deck chairs, and these tips will help against a bruised or broken immunity.
