Hi guys, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?
Not so bad, you?
Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Echo”?
Yes it’s the lead song on the Signals EP which is to be released through AWAL on 5th August 2022. Echo will be released as a single on 29th July and there’s also a video which will be available on YouTube the same day. It was mastered by the renowned Pete Maher (Pixies, Nick Cave, Jack White etc.) and arranged by Cazimi in collaboration with Steve Wallace of Penetration. The EP launch gig will be held at The Vaux Room (Isis Pub) Sunderland on Saturday 20th August with guests Dagger & the Pits and Nic Wood from Tired of Fighting doing an acoustic set.
Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?
The idea for the song was sparked by a particular event but then like most songs they develop and take on a life of their own almost
How was the filming process and experience behind the video?
We had a storyboard that we didn’t then follow. We just made it up as we went along taking lots of footage from various angles and then laboriously piecing together over several weeks using video editing software. Hard work but fun and not bad for complete amateurs we think.
The single comes off your new EP Signals – what’s the story behind the title?
You need a title right? We were thinking, well what are these songs? They are in essence signals both in an electrical/sonic wave sense and also in the sense that they contain a message; this could be true of any set of songs but we chose it for this particular piece. It’s also a signal that we are still here since we haven’t released anything since early 2020, which was the album Late in the Day which by the way is also available through Spotify, iTunes etc.
How was the recording and writing process?
The writing process usually happens in isolation from the band and the song is developed by the band as I mentioned above. I record the band in a home studio, the drums are recorded at Gary’s house. Because we’re perfectionists it’s usually a drawn out and laborious process with many, many mixes/masters as this working title will indicate: Fascination – final v6 (infinity +5 holy grail mix)
What role does Sunderland play in your music?
I’m not sure that it does other than I may see an event that inspires a lyric that you wouldn’t necessarily see in another area.
Where did you find the inspiration for the songs and lyrics?
Yes it’s a song that talks about removing toxic people from your life and not wasting precious time. Like most songs I bring them to the band and we developed the idea and try different arrangements over a number of weeks, sometimes we’ll change songs that are well established.
What else is happening next in Cazimi’s world?
Apart from the upcoming Signals RP release/gig we have a support slot with Punishment of Luxury who I love so really looking forward to that. You can keep up to date with our gigs and music at our website www.cazimi.co.uk
