Hi guys, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?
Thanks for having us! We’ve been good, enjoying the British summer while it lasts, making music, planning for our single release – everything’s grand.
Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Canvas”?
As our first single, Canvas brings a little bit of everything we’re about to the table; soaring melodies, big riffs and catchy lead guitars, all backed up with some synth work. We like music which can sound lush and uplifting one moment, and heavy and chaotic the next, which (we hope) Canvas gives off!
Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?
Lyrically, it’s about a member of the band making a mistake early on in their current relationship, which they worked through and are now stronger than ever. But they wrote the song about how they were feeling at the time, and from the perspective of what might have happened if they didn’t admit to their faults and ruined the relationship beyond repair.
Any plans to release any sort of video for the track?
Absolutely – it’s coming out the same day as the track, 22nd July. Shot by the enormously talented GLK Media (check him out), it’s a simple video which lets the camerawork and visuals take centre stage.
How was the recording and writing process?
Surprisingly easy, which isn’t always the case! This was the first track we ever wrote, and there were only minor changes made to the original demo which is nice, just the atmospheric and synth parts to give it a fuller sound. We recorded it in a bit of a heatwave back in September last year (it’s been a long time coming).
How has Bring Me The Horizon and Deftones influenced your writing?
Both bands use electronic elements to enhance the typical core guitar, bass, drums sound to amazing effect, which we wanted to take into our own music whilst still keeping the focus on the guitars. Deftones also have the trait of songs which can be beautiful one moment and crushingly heavy the next, which we absolutely love and can probably only dream of emulating! We’ll try our best though…
Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?
It certainly does – we have another single coming later this year, and hope to be back in the studio around the same time recording an EP, so watch this space.
Any tentative release date or title in mind?
The track’s called Bloodstarved; no specific release date yet but we’d imagine sometime in the autumn!
What else is happening next in NOUVELLE’s world?
We’re still working hard on an EP at the moment, and would definitely love to be playing live shows as soon as we can. We think it’s important not to rush into it until you’re well practiced and confident in what you’re doing as a band, but we’re getting there slowly but surely.
