After a Four Year Absence, Actor James Franco Set to Star in Upcoming Historical Drama “Me, You”

If you’ve ever enjoyed his work in such films as Spider-Man, Deuces Wild, City by the Sea, Flyboys, Pineapple Express, Milk, Howl, Eat Pray Love, 127 Hours, This Is the End and The Disaster Artist (not to mention such fun turns in TV shows like General Hospital and Freaks and Geeks), then the news from our “live and let live” pals over at The Hollywood Reporter that – after an extended absence from the Hollywood scene – James Franco is poised for something of a cinematic comeback will be welcome news indeed.

Revealed yesterday is the breaking news that Oscar nominated actor James Franco will be returning to the world of acting in the upcoming post-World War II film Me, You which is set to be directed by legendary director, writer and cinematographer Bille August (House of the Spirits). The film itself is based off of the bestselling novel Tu, Mia from celebrated scribe Erri De Luca. Franco will share the new drama with fellow thespians Tom Hollander (Pride and Prejudice) and Daisy Jacob (Everything I Know About Love).

What we know about Me, You is enough to whet our movie-going appetite: Franco plays rough and tumble fisherman Nicola who takes under his wing sixteen-year old London native Marco, who spends his time in the older man’s company, fishing in the postcard perfect bay of early 1950s Naples. Nicola regales Marco with his WWII exploits while gently steering his heart towards an enchanting and mysterious older girl named Caia. The press release for the film goes on to add that “A beautiful complicity is established between the two when Caia reveals her painful past; a childhood stolen by the SS and a father who threw his daughter out of a train in Yugoslavia to save her from the horrors of a concentration camp.”

In a statement regarding his casting in Me, You, James Franco said that he was “excited to board this phenomenal project and to be working with the legendary Bille August. I’m a huge fan of his work, and Me, You is a truly brilliant script.”

Me, You marks what many film aficionados hope is a career comeback for Franco: The busy actor already has two new films in the can and awaiting release – The Long Home and Kill the Czar. Another film, Mace, is in pre-production from director David Chisholm, the writer of cult-hit TV series American Gothic.

Welcome back, James Franco; we’re looking forward to seeing new work from you!
