On her captivating new song “FREE,” Japanese R&B/Soul performer Risa Kumon creates a soulful, celestial vibe. “FREE” is an outstanding offering by Risa, who blends traditional Jazz sensibilities with R&B beats and slow-burning, throbbing bass.
Risa Kumon is a musician who executes her music to a very high degree. She has Rolandis “Roro” Ramsey’s production, a mix by multi-platinum award-winning Engineer IRKO (who most recently earned a Grammy for mixing Kanye West’s album Donda), and a master by the famous Herb Powers Jr.
While delivering words that explore a sense of release from negativity—and inspire listeners to do the same—sun-soaked Risa’s vocals are calming and uninhibited. Risa has always found the song’s message to be very meaningful, and she is now bringing the poetry to a new generation and audience.

The artist is seen meandering through nature in an almost infectious, relaxing manner in the video, which wonderfully captures a potent message. Through visual symbolism, Risa expresses her belief in the circle of life and in letting go of things that are no longer useful to us. Risa implores the listener to seek out the beauty in everything and sow the seeds for a bright future with breath-taking, calm views of nature and serene landscapes. Risa just preaches one thing, and that is FREEDOM.

Risa Kumon currently resides in Tokyo, Japan, but she is originally from Sasebo, Nagasaki. She performs a wide range of music, although her primary musical focus is R&B, Jazz, and Soul. After losing her eyesight due to a measles infection at age 3, she discovered how to play the piano. Fortunately, she was able to regain her visual clarity.
As a result, she developed secondary Retinitis Pigmentosa, an incurable illness. She claims that taking piano lessons ignited her passion for music.

After seeing “Sister Act 2,” Risa was fascinated with R&B as a teenager. Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, and Lauryn Hill were early influences on her, as was the Jazz that her father would play. Her prior work includes a jazz EP, a project of Christmas covers, a joint album with artist/producer Roro, and collaborations on other tracks.

Risa is well-known in the media as a multilingual Radio personality who interviews celebrities and other performers during their tours to Japan. Kirk Franklin, Corinne Bailey Rae, Brian McKnight, and many others have previously been interviewed by her. Risa Kumon has already played at some of Japan’s top music festivals and charted numerous times in her career, so there is no telling how quickly she will ascend in the future.

The single is currently available on all major digital streaming platforms. For further information on booking RisaKumon, please contact Hiro through email at [email protected] or via the website at https://risakumon.com/.
