The family’s take on comedic TikTok performances is part of the revolutionary re-branding of new-media entertainment in the ever-evolving social media landscape. The family, which consists of father Gman, wife Lady G, daughter Aracelis, and son Rando, take observational comedy to new viewership heights and keep their followers constantly coming back for more. We caught up with these social media legends to get their take on their explosive online success, their Triller TV show, and their future in the world of social media and entertainment.
Whose idea was your account? How did you get into TikTok?
The idea was our daughter’s, Aracelis Almodovar. She was home from college and said that we should have a TikTok account — that our family is funny and people would love our page if we created one. So that’s what we did.
Who are your favorite comedians?
There are so many. But some of our favorites would be Martin Lawrence, Steve Trevino, Dave Chappelle and Kevin Hart.
What was your first highly viewed TikTok?
The first one was from a scene of the sitcom “Martin” from Martin Lawrence. When we posted it, we received 100K views in a day.
How do you feel about collaborations? Do you feel they’re a fit for your content? Would you ever collaborate directly with a comedian?
Actually, we have. We did a collaboration with Steve Trevino. We do a lot of his comedy and went to see him live. We got to meet him and he thanked us because he said when we use his content, we help him sell seats. A lot of people ask if the comedians get upset when we use their content. But from what I can tell, the answer is no.
You have a specific brand of content. Would you ever venture into other kinds of content? For example, would we ever start regularly seeing “fit checks” from you?
The point of our TikTok is to entertain others and to create awareness of us so that we can do other things as well. We don’t want to only be content creators for TikTok. We have so much to offer and are open to so many different possibilities. You never know where you may see one of us next. We’re totally up for any challenge. So, yes, definitely.
Were there mistakes you made early on with TikTok? If so, how did you adjust?
I think that we started TikTok with an amazing niche in the comedic realm. I can’t really say there were mistakes. But I can say there were definitely adjustments. We put a lot of thought and work into what we post and always try to outdo the last video we did. We find amazing things can happen when you try to challenge yourself to be better.
How did you find what really worked for you when creating content?
We just did something that we felt comfortable with and we found that it resonated with people. The goal is to bring smiles to others. Sometimes we get emails or messages from our followers that were depressed. And they say that we brought them out their depression and that we’re their go-to now when they need a good laugh, which to us is awesome.
What would you say to other aspiring influencers about building an audience and finding their niche?
Our advice is very simple — do what you love to do! Whatever that may be. And be consistent. Let the content speak for itself. That’s why we love TikTok, because you can find a community in just about any niche you can think of. One of the most important things is be prepared. And by that I mean, to have the right equipment. What’s that you might ask? Lighting, a good phone, things like that. And then to just let your creativity flow, be consistent, and give it time.
You’ve ventured into doing your own comedy on your account here and there. Would any of you ever do standup?
Funny question because we hear this all the time. People ask us if we would ever do standup. But the answer is a hard one to answer because we respect comedians so much. We know that not just anyone can go out there and say they do comedy. We’ve discussed and have tried to imagine the work it would take to prepare a standup set, and then to actually do one. With that said, though, I do believe we’re funny. So, can I see that in the future? Maybe, but we’d probably have to have a mentor helping to teach us the ropes.
What are your favorite TikTok accounts, other than your own?
We love so many accounts, it would be impossible to mention them all. There are so many niches out there and people who are so amazing at what they do. We feel that we live in a world today where anyone can become something if they really put hard work into it.
