Stars in Our Eyes: Celebrated HBO Max Comedy “Starstruck” Shoots for the Sky with Season 3 Renewal

There’s just something about the HBO Max/BBC One comedic trifle Starstruck which stays with you long after watching the latest episode. Perhaps it’s the deft quirkiness which imbues every frame of this offbeat story about a struggling East Londoner called Jessie (writer and actor extraordinaire Rose Matafeo) who, when not battling to make the rent on her overpriced and status symbol of an apartment which she shares with her roommate and best gal pal Kate, finds herself embroiled in the most unexpected of romances with a renowned movie star named Tom. Yeah, we’re pretty sure those are the respective hooks that keep fans tuning in for every new misadventure of Jessie and Co.; it’s certainly a recipe that has turned us into hardcore fans.

For all of you that have fallen under the intoxicating spell of comedian Rose Matafeo’s Starstruck, today is your lucky day: As announced by our “hope springs eternal” philosopher’s over at The Hollywood Reporter, HBO Max has announced that the romantic comedy favorite known as Starstruck has been renewed for a third season; let the celebrations begin!

Sarah Aubrey, HBO Max Big Wheel and designated head of original programming for the streaming platform, made a whole passel of fans happy today with her announcement of a third season for Starstruck: “Rose has created a show that strikes just the right balance of heart and humor. Starstruck is exactly the kind of rom-com that we love at HBO Max, and we are so happy to see Jessie and Tom’s story continue.”

The news of this anticipated third season renewal comes at a period of time when brand-spankin’ new key masters for HBO Max – the now notoriously budget conscious (and very merged, we hear tell) Warner Bros. Discovery -is slashing budgets faster than a K-Mart employee can exhort about the latest Blue Light Special. Just what kind of budget-slashing are we talking about here? Big Wheel for Warner Bros. Discovery David Zaslav has been assigned the dubious task of cutting out an estimated $3 billion smackers from the company’s budget; Ouch!

The budget game and every program’s high risk of being cut from the lineup is not lost on Starstruck’s creator Rose Matafeo, who gave praise to the benevolent Renewal Gods in a press release today: “A third? Sure. Fine. I’m truly thrilled to bring this incredibly talented cast back for a third installment, and equally excited to clamber into the director’s seat alongside my nice friend Alice Snedden who I cannot seem to get rid of.”

In all seriousness Dear and Constant Reader, if you’re not already watching Starstruck, then do yourself a favor and catch up on all of the past episodes of this HBO Max bouquet of awesomeness before season three lands (date and time of said season three premiere is presumably still pending, by the by)!
