SINGLE REVIEW: Dive by Emme Lentino

Emme Lentino’s new release Dive follows the across-the-board success of her last hit, Shake It Off, which generated plays on MOOD MEDIA, FLOW FM NETWORK, GRANT BROADCASTERS, 3AW, ABC LOCAL, ABC COUNTRY, KIX COUNTRY NETWORK, MTV / CMT and many more, and was featured in a National ad campaign for Victoria’s Secret. Shake It Up followed the success of the recent Oceanside remix, Peter Pan, and a string of playlist favourites—including Last Christmas, the reinterpretation of the classic George Michael song, which featured on MTV Australia, the Philadelphia News Channel 17, CTV Calgary (National News in Canada), Global News (National News, Canada) and received airplay on commercial radio world-wide and consumer outlets including Bed, Bath and Beyond. Dive is set to create a similar buzz. A sprawling epic post-breakup song infused with searing dramatic cadences, and eloquent melodic sensibilities, all underpinned by a disarmingly honest narrative. As Emme says about Dive, ‘This song is so important to me. The songwriting journey it took me on while composing the piano riff and lyrics was painful and messy. I had just moved to NYC. I spent every last dime on my first keyboard from Guitar Center. To be quite honest, I went through a very depressing breakup and sat in my room, crying my eyes out. As I was sitting there crying—the keyboard called to me. From the depths of despair, my fingers started tinkering a melody. It was haunting, and the words came quickly and suddenly, my heart felt understood.’ Dive begins with an evocative piano-lead introduction, setting up a mood and a foundation point from which the track builds into a dynamic stirring ambient pop track. Utilising a mixed aural backdrop, a perfect vehicle for Emme’s vocal performance, the track progresses into a dreamy, cinematic high point, reinforcing the potency of the lyric and its raw, unflinching exposition. Emme Lentino’s new release expresses the intimate and the personal, reflecting a touchingly real, universal, and emotionally illuminating experience to which we can all relate.
